‘Israel Is Entitled to Defend Itself’: Bahrain Foreign Minister’s

Dramatic Break With Arab Precedent Follows Iranian Missile Assault

The foreign minister of Bahrain on Thursday issued an unusually forthright defense of Israel’s sovereign right to defend itself, hours after Iranian forces in Syria aimed a barrage of missiles at the Jewish state, inviting a wave of Israeli air strikes in response.

“As long as Iran has breached the status quo in the region and invaded countries with its forces and missiles, any state in the region, including Israel, is entitled to defend itself by destroying sources of danger,” Sheikh Khalid al-Khalifa, Bahrain’s foreign minister, declared on Twitter.

Several Arab commentators were quick to note the historical significance of al-Khalifa’s comment. “The Bahraini foreign minister’s support for the Israeli strikes marks a rare, if not unprecedented public stance by an Arab government,” Beirut’s Daily Star newspaper observed.

While Israel and Bahrain do not maintain official relations, the two countries interests have increasingly aligned as the Iranian threat to the Arab Gulf states has grown. With its restive Shi’a Muslim majority population, Bahrain — a Sunni Arab monarchy — is regarded as particularly vulnerable to Iranian interference.

Am I right that it isn’t that Israel has a blanket right to self-defense but that privilege is due to Iran’s current aggressions against other Muslims, and that those actions are destabilizing the region and harming the interest of Sunni Muslims?

Essentially, that because Israel’s responses are against Iran — which is destabilizing Sunni Muslim States — they are tolerable for the reason that they indirectly benefit the status quo of the disrupted Muslim States?

I assume Syria is also entitled to defend itself. List for us the attacks on Israel by Syria, Start with “1” and go numerically. State approximate date, location. casualties, and weapons Syria used. GO!!Tick Tock!!

Yes, in the same sense that any bully has a “right to defend himself”, after he has attacked his neighbors ...

the bully also has a “right” to get his ass kicked by his victims

e.g., Nazi Germany, Imperial Japan, al-Quaeda ...

They know the US will not occupy them, as will the Iranians.

Damn Jimmy Carter for giving Iran to these radicals.

Didn’t Obummer once infer that Israeli jets would not be permitted to fly over Iraq to attack Iran?

Don’t think it would be a problem with Trump.

Bahrain is closer to, and more dependent on the Saudis, than any other country.

Unlikely that their Foreign Minister would express this position publicly, if he did not think that it was OK with the Saudis.

In fact, the Bahranis could well have stepped out with this statement FOR the Saudis, as part of their diplomatic contribution to the multi-national anti-Iranian regime effort.

The Saudi Crown Prince (Muhammad bin Salman - MBS) made a point of point of paling around with prominent Jews during his recent visit to the USA. That would have been avoided like the plague by the earlier Saudi ruling cliques.

I think these countries fear Iran more than they hate Jews. They know Israel is a peaceful neighbor.

also... Iran is a Persian nation of a people perceived as interlopers in the middle east.
Whereas Israeli, are blood cousins via Abraham and hundreds of historically interwoven generations...

Ishmael and Isaac,
Jacob and Esau...
and so on...

not saying they are at peace... but explaining perhaps one aspect of why they are always at odds with each other, and ready to explode together over Iran.

The Gulf States seem to have come to the realization that Israel isn’t their mortal enemy...that “honor” goes to the mullahs in Tehran.

Of the last couple of days, I have mentioned how some Arab states now see Israel as an ally against Iran.

Here’s a guy taking a stand by essentially saying just that.

Iran is fooling itself if it thinks all of the Middle-East will back it’s play against Israel. All those nations know they would be next if Israel fell.

Supposedly last night over Damascus, this pic contains all the air defense activity in this location during several minutes by a long exposure lense.

Very cool.

I wonder if Syria had any SA-400 anti aircraft installations up and running.

Evidently that’s a big yes.
