TRUMP IS STARTING TO SPOOK THE LEFT

Did anyone happen to catch David Brooks’s latest column, “Donald Trump’s Lizard Wisdom,” in the New York Times? I about fell out of my chair, because Brooks almost tacitly admits that maybe he was wrong about Trump. Referring to Trump’s experience dealing with the mobbed-up New York construction scene in his long real estate career, Brooks says:

And yet I can’t help but wonder if that kind of background has provided a decent education for dealing with the sort of hopped-up mobsters running parts of the world today. There is growing reason to believe that Donald Trump understands the thug mind a whole lot better than the people who attended our prestigious Foreign Service academies.

The second piece of evidence is our trade talks with China. Over the past few decades, the Western diplomatic community made a big bet: If we all behaved decently toward Chinese leaders, then they’d naturally come to embrace liberal economic and cultural values and we could all eventually share a pinot at the University Club.

The bet went wrong. . . The president has pushed back harder on the Chinese and has netted some results. After some Trump swagger, Xi Jinping promised to “significantly lower” Chinese tariffs on imported vehicles. I imagine that Times readers must be freaking out about this. (I can’t find the comments section on the Times redesigned web format.) Now, Brooks is not a leftist, But Willie Brown, the legendary for speaker of the California State Assembly and mayor of San Francisco, and one of the smartest politicians in America, certainly is a leftist, and he wrote this yesterday in the San Francisco Chronicle:

Trump Is More Popular Than Dems Want to Admit

Trump Is More Popular Than Dems Want to Admit

It’s time for the Democrats to stop bashing President Trump.

It’s not going to be easy, given his policies and personality. It might even mean checking into a 12-step program. But setting a winning agenda is like maneuvering an aircraft carrier. It takes time to change course. And if they want to be on target for the November midterm elections, the Democrats need to start changing course now.

Like it or not, a significant number of Americans are actually happy these days. They are making money. They feel safe, and they agree with with the president’s protectionist trade policies, his call for more American jobs, even his immigration stance.

The jobs growth reports, the North Korea summit and the steady economy are beating out the Stormy Daniels scandal and the Robert Mueller investigation in Middle America, hands down.

So you are not going to win back the House by making it all about him.

If Brown is saying this, you can bet he’s on to something, and knows his party is poised to blow it.

Bonus: Later in his rambling column, Brown tells this interesting story:

Cruise control: Got into a taxi the other day, and the cabbie promptly introduced himself as “Cadillac Jack.”

“I’ve owned 29 Cadillacs, all of them new,” he said, and proceeded to tell me about each and every one of them as we drove across town.

Finally I had to ask.

“How old are you?”

“Sixty,” he said.

“How did you manage to go through 29 Cadillacs?”

“Well, you know, if you don’t pay for them, they take ’em back.”

BTW, I agree with the headline. Trump is wearing well on more and more Americans. This probably rattles the left more than anything.

I would guess Mueller doesn’t like it at all.

I’d feel a lot better if Trump showed some awareness of the complexity of the systems he’s disrupting, and the possibly cataclysmic unintended consequences.

If President Trump doesn't understand the systems he is disrupting, how is he able to disrupt them so easily, to his advantage?

It is as if we are in a perpetual campaign mode... I remember the Trump haters during the primary and some attempted to necklace Trump as being mobbed up... others itched about his ‘orange hair’, and others still rag about his book claiming it was him bragging about being a serial adulterer....

I never considered myself ‘high’ IQ, but, man oh man there are some really well educated, stupid people going to and fro.

If you aren’t happy about this, go to a country that suits your delusions. There are lots a sh*tholes that would fulfill your socailist BS worldview. Don’t let the door hit you on the way out. And don’t come back when you find out what your Utopia is really like.

MAGA! Welcome to our understanding of Trump. The guys is where he is (before the presidency) because he is a smart and driven man who is serious about results—just the opposite of what Obama brought to the office. Trump believes in capitalism and knows people, power, and profit. He also knows how to protect his boundaries and he’s doing that now for our nation. Something very much needed for a VERY long time.

I think Trump has spooked just about every one of the 535 folks walking the halls of Congress these days, and I’m sure he has his trolls at the SCOTUS also.’

He is despised by the press and we could go on and on with groups that hate him.

Man he’s go all the right enemies.

What is even more important to me than China, North Korea, etc. is President Trump’s dealing with the Mueller investigation, corruption in the FBI, DOJ, CIA, NSA, Obama administration, Hillary Clinton, John F’n Kerry and who knows who else. President Trump’s “chaos” has allowed Rep Nunes of the House to start putting the hammer to the DOJ stonewalling, revealing MORE names within the Deep State and our domestic traitors. Without Trump’s presidency, we would NEVER have started draining the swamp. Oh....let’s not forget the retirement of TWO possible Supreme Court judges.

Precisely. The thing about complex systems is that a tiny touch in the right place can change the system state beyond recognition. Trump's been doing it 140 characters at a time and it's driving his opposition absolutely nuts.

There has been a noticeable change in coverage of the President. Besides this article there was a statement by J Kimmel recently claiming people are “Tired of non stop Trump bashing” and a similar statement from someone from SNL.

The word has been put out to lighten up on the non stop and baseless attacks on the President. They see it it not working as they hoped and they are be coming frightened to death.

Every election cycle, some leading candidate, Republican or Democrat, wants to claim the mantle of reforming outsider. This was done by the likes of Dukakis, Clinton and Carter as well as by Reagan, Trump is able to credibly run for a second term, while easily maintaining his outsider status, and his enemies are doing it for him.
