Karenna Gore: Religious Leaders Should Urge Climate Activism on 'Moral and Spiritual Level'

Karenna Gore, director of the Center for Earth Ethics at Union Theological Seminary, urged the Catholic Church and other “faith communities” to become climate change activists and preach about taking action on the issue.

“I actually think that [preaching is] one of the main things that could actually break through on this issue. One of the ways that we could break through on this issue is if people really start to think deeply on another level about it; on a moral and spiritual level and are moved from a different kind of place to take action, to raise it with their elected representatives, to make it inform their individual choices but also our political agenda, to be constantly saying, why are we building up more fossil fuels? Why don't we switch to a new renewable energy?” Gore told PJM following a discussion at the Berkley Center for Religion, Peace and World Affairs at Georgetown University on Monday evening.

Obviously climate change causes genetic mutations of the brain and it's "activity". Or lack thereof.

Yes, yes…BRILLIANT.… use religion to bring Marxism then hang the religious leaders. It’s Lenin buying the rope from capitalists to hang them with.

Communism is our enemy and need to be crushed. Joe McCarthy was 100% correct

Yes. I think her husband's last name is Schiff.

One result of good theology ought to be good science. Right now all we have is people looking into ways that the earth could heat significantly from anthropogenic CO2 — and nobody looking into ways that the earth might not heat significantly from anthropogenic CO2.

It seems to me one big variable that is not looked into much is that of historical CO2 emissions from volcanoes — with the recent rerouting of the magma flow of Kilauea in Hawaii, volcanoes are back in the news. Well, it turns out that these volcanoes emit copious CO2 along with other gases. The world has sometimes had very large volcanic eruptions and somehow that didn’t manage to cook away life on earth. True, these volcanoes also emitted large amounts of particulate material that filtered sunlight, mitigating any CO2 effect. Perhaps it is an ironic fact that our modern clean burning processes, by emitting so little particulates, remove that mitigating factor from the picture. Maybe we should spew dust into the air out in the ocean somewhere to make up for our CO2, who knows? If a few rambunctious volcanic eruptions don’t do it for us. But anyhow, good faith leaders should urge good science.

One can be “100% correct” in one sense and yet pursue a madly destructive answer to the problem.

Communism was eating Christianity’s lunch because it wasn’t exercising faith enough to get out of a wet paper bag marked “Satan.” Instead, politicians pursued things that would make any honest, honorable churchman blanch with horror.

The Bible, math at least thru Calculus II, and Physics for Scientists and Engineers.

Dialoguing without at least some of either can be difficult.

Chemistry and biology also helpful.

For anyone in the CRC, this is why I will never be a member again. The leadership of the Christian Reformed Church has bought into this junk, hook line and sinker. This and other social justic crap. By this article I know they aren’t the only ones led astray.
