The U.S. Supreme Court is considering a constitutional challenge to a California law targeting pro-life pregnancy centers. The so-called FACT Act requires the centers to tell clients they may qualify for subsidized abortionsa clear example of compelled speech. But such laws arent the only threats to the centers freedom of speech. At the local level, activists have begun a quiet push to protect the abortion industry through zoning.
Last month the Womens Care Center, which operates 28 pregnancy and family-resource centers in 10 states, became the latest target. A Texas-based abortion-clinic chain, Whole Womens Health, convinced the mayor of South Bend, Ind., to veto a decision by the citys Common Council rezoning a house for a Womens Care Center next to a planned abortion clinic.
Mayor Pete Buttigieg made clear the veto was motivated by the centers pro-life message: In my judgment, the neighborhood would not benefit from having the zoning law changed in order to place next door to each other two organizations with deep and opposite commitments on the most divisive social issue of our time, he wrote. It is far from clear that a neighborhood benefits from co-locating facilities with such opposite views. He added that while the Department of Community Investment staff approved the rezoning, the recommendation did not contemplate broader concerns about the health and welfare of the area, given the deep opposition in values between the petitioner and its existing neighbor...
Mr. Buttigiegs veto is not surprising. He is 36 and ambitious: Last year he ran for Democratic National Committee chairman. Given the partys extreme pro-abortion position, he had to comply with the demands of the abortion lobby in order to keep his national political hopes alive...

Pete ‘buttboy’ Buttigieg has some very high political aspirations. He wants to be president. I have relatives in the area and they can not stand his whiny butt.
Yeah, maybe the mayor is right. It's not a good idea to confuse women with the truth.
What’s to stop a center from complying by stating, “According to the monsters in the California Legislature you are allowed to murder your baby. Here’s where you can go”?
There’s a Women’s Care Center across the street from a Whole Women’s death center in Baltimore. That’s exactly what happens since the abortion factory doesn’t even have a sign.
California legislation actually has required wording and font size.
I know a couple attorneys who are on the legal team for a pro-life center facing similar circumstances where they have to provide abortion information. SCOTUS just accepted their case.
Cutting into the profit margin, dontchaknow?
If they could identify the gene that makes them grow up to be Democrats, I might consider becoming a pro-abortion advocate. 8>)
