First lady Melania Trump underwent kidney surgery Monday at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center near Washington, DC, according to a statement from her office.
Trump had been experiencing an issue with her kidney that her office described as benign but requiring medical attention.
"This morning, first lady Melania Trump underwent an embolization procedure to treat a benign kidney condition. The procedure was successful and there were no complications," the first lady's communications director, Stephanie Grisham, said in a statement.
"Mrs. Trump is at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center and will likely remain there for the duration of the week. The first lady looks forward to a full recovery so she can continue her work on behalf of children everywhere," Grisham wrote.
Trump, who turned 48 last month, entered Walter Reed in nearby Bethesda, Maryland, on Monday morning and is expected to remain hospitalized for several days following the operation, according to the statement.
She is the first US first lady to undergo such a serious medical procedure while in the White House since Nancy Reagan had a mastectomy in October 1987. Rosalynn Carter underwent surgery to remove a benign lump from her breast in April 1977. Weeks after Betty Ford became first lady, she was diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent a mastectomy in September 1974.

He just tweeted a few minutes ago that he is on his way to the hospital. She is probably still heavily sedated and given pain meds so she will be kind of out of it for a little while. Praying for a speedy recovery for our wonderful First Lady!

The mold, etc problems weren’t even in the hospital proper. They were at a building on the other side of Georgia Ave that had been a motel and was then being used as a place for patients to stay while their cases were being decided. It was a problem even then to get a timely decision as to whether a serviceman would stay at Walter Reed for further treatment, be sent to another facility or discharged from the military. The attack on Walter Reed was a ginned up attack on GWB and all Republicans.
An embolization procedure is not the proper treatment for kidney stones.
Better news it is reported as being somewhat minor.
Good news she is resting now.
Great news she will go home in a few days.

I heard on a WABC New York radio report that the operation was an embolization procedure which blocks blood feeders to a benign growth, thereby shrinking or eliminating it.
