Sen. Ted Cruz Says Silicon Valley ‘Poses Real and Present Danger’ to American Democracy

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) warned against the unchecked power of big tech during an exclusive interview with Breitbart News Sunday, recommending that America “looks at all the tools we have to protect free speech and prevent[s] the Internet from becoming a vehicle for censorship.”

“The nexus of power in media has moved from New York City to Silicon Valley,” Cruz told host Breitbart News Deputy Political Editor Amanda House.

“At this point, a handful of companies enjoy power that famed publisher William Randolph Hearst, at the height of yellow journalism, could never have imagined.”

“We’ve heard reports from whistleblowers of ‘shadowbanning’, where you simply tweet or post something and nobody sees it, it just goes into the void, goes into the ether.”

“Likewise, if there are views that a handful of tech companies like, they can favor those views and direct them to your feed so everything you see is the information they want you to see.”

“That is a level of power that is staggering, and I think it poses a real and present danger to our democratic system, particularly given the extreme left-wing bias of Silicon Valley.

The power/corruption of these "social media" pukes is much more than enough to alter elections and bend young people's minds on all matters.

It's a REAL danger. And somehow it must be controlled.

It makes me wonder why some enterprising conservative doesn't or hasn't already started up a social media site himself/herself.

There is a social media alternative called GAB. Of course Free Republic continues to be the ultimate social meda site for conservatives. Where else can you get so much conservative news and commentary by so many informed conservative souls? We take it for granted . It’s amazing that Jim manages somehow to keep it going with so little support from the people who use it.

FreeRepublic is located in Fresno, not Silicon Valley. I don’t think Ted Cruz meant FreeRepublic.

I don’t think Ted meant Free Republic either, even though it went pro Trump.

Progressive Democrat Randolph Hearst has taken a back seat to today’s Yellow Journalists who are currently setting new heights for Yellow Journalism around the world under the newly coined moniker Fake News.

Everyday MSN, AOL plus the other main sites have the same fake news headline items posted.

...”It’s a REAL danger. And somehow it must be controlled.”...

Articles are now being written about a pervasive loneliness which people are beginning to suffer and about a 33% rise in depression. Just today I read that Millenials are in more trouble than the Boomer generation was in respect to youthful energy for the future. Social media is the consequence of an already disconnected society which is the consequence of the increasing mobility of the population. People are just not made to leave home and family to live among strangers and, in some cases, to lead nomadic lives, without suffering for it. FB seemed like a way to reconnect, but we now know that the unseen power of that technology could hold the seed of a tyrannical control that would bring horrible suffering to all of us. Buy Vance Packard’s old books and read. He told us back then what was happening to the country in the wake of mobility, and he was prophetic. However, he had no clue how bad it would get with big tech.

Yes.

It's funny (and ALARMING) when people like Rush Limbaugh choose to, every now and then, put together a collage of the same talking point words by dozens of news outlets. Over and over the same thing ...........

Why not?

Inertia and profitability.

One step would be to require outfits like Google and Facebook to announce their bias algorithms or censorship decisions publicly and to require their sign ups to check a box showing that they know they are available for inspection. It’s a matter of basic honesty — users have a right to know when their searches are rigged.

Just take a look at all the pro-Trump pages from Fbook that have been banned, or the leftist news feeds that get pushed to you in Google (Goolag) or any other app.

He is not wrong.

Let’s not be hoisted on the petard of our own virtue by defending their rights to do this under principles of capitalism.

We need to swallow hard, then regulate the bejeezus out of them.

“threat to American Democracy?”

No, ‘Ted’ (real name Rafael Cruz Jr.) American democracy is strong and healthy.

The rejection of you, YEB? and HRC prove that.

Go peddle your censorship scheme in Canada, you are not wanted here.

Lack of family. 70% of marriage ends in divorce, initiated 80% of the time by the empowered female, convinced she needs neither a man, nor the kids, for the most part (since the marriage is for the kids, first and foremost).

No family, no roots. No roots, no perspective.

No perspective, and everything is pointless.

So much Sponsored crap on Facebook and Twitter, the posts I want to see from friends and family have trouble coming through. Facebook keeps imposing Your Post From 2015, today it was done twice in five minutes of scrolling, two old posts from past years.
