170+ buildings under construction at mammoth new North Korean tourist resort......

At least 170 buildings are being constructed at a 'mammoth' new tourist resort zone on North Korea’s Wonsan Kalma peninsula...The full scale of the project being built at ultra-rapid pace by what appear to be thousands of soldier workers – has to date not been revealed in official DPRK state media coverage....ground-level photos many reach ten floors high, suggesting resort capacity will be in the high thousands or low tens of thousands upon completion.

Calvin Chua, an expert in North Korean architecture, said that satellite imagery showed access to the sprawling facility appeared – for now – to be highly restricted.

“The layout seems to suggest only a single entry point,” he said. “This would mean that the development is likely to have a regulated entry, perhaps a gated residential district or a resort.”

The timelapse shows the emergence of scores of temporary shelters and facilities for workers at the facility, with satellite imagery showing such facilities surrounding three sides of the resort.

At major construction projects, North Korean soldiers are often drafted and housed in this way in temporary lodging adjacent to their location of work, something which ground-level KCTV footage confirmed in May.

But the pace of construction appears to also be being accelerated by stadium-style lighting erected

KCTV footage shows lights for night-time construction, a common practice at major North Korean building projects.

The article is a good read that explains the location is actually quite a distance from the N.Korean population.....I suspect it will be utilized greatly once NKorea opens for corporate business and they begin rebuilding the country.
There’s a lot of Investors chopping at the bit to go in there. The resort would accomodate them and meetings...while they build the cities infastructure.

It will be highly satisfying to see a CAT 5 Typhoon obliterate that island.

The Sun has the story now. https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/6295244/inside-north-koreas-massive-new-holiday-resort-with-three-mile-beach-so-would-you-go/

I take this as another sign NK is coming along.

Though “tourism being one of the few industries not targeted by US sanctions,” OTOH “Wonsan and Kalma airport are also important defence areas, used for large-scale artillery drills and as the launch site for dozens of missile tests in recent years.”

Shoddy shitty construction work at best. Same as their showcase (single) ski resort at Masikryong where only government employees posing as “skiers” are rolled out for an hour or so to act when the likes of NBC-TV visit to do a report—in which hundreds of workers perished. You’d never catch me spending a night in one of those death traps.

NK is one big frigggin Potemkin Village, a Hollywood set. Don’t fall for it!

I agree with your observation.

Seems like a good sign.

Yeah, I can agree about businesses as a slave workforce is getting harder to come by. Even the Chinese want homes, phones, TVs and multiple meals a day.

The history of the site is that NK started construction on its own and then everything ground to a halt. Then, all of a sudden, construction took off again.
Makes me wonder if China’s making a gift to Kim.
China should be able to build a decent building.

(Hey, maybe Trump can arrange for the decoration contractors!)

I just doubt this is intended for tourism alone. One of the complaints investors had about N.Korea was there isn't adequate infrastructure for business nor accommodations for workers/employees. So many wouldn't consider even when Kim had opened for business those few times prior. Also having enough N.Koreans with skill sets so weak you have to bring in outside people to manage etc. So this resort would be likely utilized for some CEOS etc. I can imagine..everything would be right there. P.S. Appreciate so much you link as I believe this project is significant to know of.

I could see a parody of the Sony ad from the movie Crazy People: “North Korean manufacturing, because South Koreans are just too damn tall.”

Both China and Russia want dibs on N.Korea for business etc. You’re probably right that they’re investing in this project....and will in others very quickly when the doors swing open.

Well, it could just be Potemkin Village stuff, as AIT said.
The big news would be ‘who is paying for this?’. If NK, then Potemkin Village is very likely.

Either or it’s interesting. I thought as much with Kims new airport etc. and building up the areas where the elites live with shops etc. Has he been doing this to really accomodate them?..or was he already considering the future?..Who knows..
