Barletta, Trump backer, wins GOP nod to take on Sen. Casey

Four-term U.S. Rep. Lou Barletta, R-Pa., a staunch supporter of President Donald Trump who first got national notice as a small-city mayor for his attempted crackdown on illegal immigration, on Tuesday won the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate in Pennsylvania.

Barletta paid little attention to his Republican rival, state Rep. Jim Christiana, during the primary campaign. Instead, he focused his attacks on the candidate he hopes to unseat in the fall, two-term Democratic Sen. Bob Casey.

With 80 percent of precincts reporting, Barletta led Christiana by nearly 112,000 votes out of more than 495,000 cast. The four-term congressman will face an uphill battle against the two-term incumbent Casey and Fox News' current projections show the seat is likely to remain in Democratic hands.

Can he win? Santorum wiped the floor with the lightweight Casey in 2006 debates. Didn’t help him.

Lou Barletta saw the dangers of illegal immigration almost twenty years ago, when he was mayor of Hazelton, PA. For objecting to the influx of illegals into his small town, he was scorned by members of both parties. Obviously, it didn’t hurt his political career at all, proving once again that both parties are clueless when it comes to this issue.

Good news.
We currently have just FOUR Senators that side with the citizens and the rule of law.
Barletta could make 5.

proving once again that both parties are clueless when it comes to this issue.

Being "clueless" implies a good-natured effort on the parties to do the right thing. They have no intention of doing the right thing on this issue and are completely aware of how wrong they are on the issue, both from a moral standpoint and a political impact standpoint. They are bought and sold by the Chamber of Commerce and big business. They have no sound principles backing up their Pro- Amnesty positions,.

Both parties are not clueless.
The illegal alien inundation was intentional.
There has been a bipartisan policy of non-enforcement of laws and borders for 30 years, starting with GHW Bush and continuing through Obama.
The GOP has been actively blocking US from electing anyone who would help the citizens to stop it.
Trump breaking through the Bush blockade at the RNC is the only reason we have not lost our country already.

Santorum had to endure the Foley wave. We do not have anyone molesting Congressional pages right now.

If anyone can win, its Lou Barletta. He is a much better candidate than Santorum ever was and a much more solid conservative.

Plus the debates with Casey were scheduled at times when almost nobody would be watching. He also had a lot of baggage from supporting Arlen Specter against Pat Toomey in the GOP primary and lots of Pennsylvanians thought they were voting for Casey Jr.'s father. 2006 was a blowout, with Jr. getting 59%. In 2012 he managed only 53.7% against a good but mostly unknown opponent.

You can bet that this year, any rallies which Jr. holds will be before carefully screened and scripted audiences. More and more people are discovering that Jr. is not his Daddy.

Not only that, but Little Bobby Casey is the STUPIDEST man in the U.S. Senate. His IQ is barely room temperature.

This guy is a punk, clown, wanna be, living off his Dad’s name.
Sad thing is, he sold his Dad down the river, to be an, in the fold Dumbocrat
I have always considered myself a conservative, but Bob Casey Sr. was the only major Democrat candidate I voted for. He was a good man, and stood up for the unborn, to his own detriment. He son is sadly, and empty, sell out of a person.
GO LOU !!!!!!

I think a smart campaign with Trump helping to get the base out could do it.

Honestly????

And I know I’ll take a beating for saying, this, but its my honest opinion on the situation....

Quite frankly, the way things stand right now.. NO.

Wagner won’t win the Governorship either.

Why? Simple.. the Dems have a huge enthusiasm gap, anyone telling you otherwise is LYING to you.

You aren’t winning PA statewide with high Democratic turnout, without getting votes outside your base... and LOTS OF THEM. Trump attracted a lot of disenfranchised D voters, and a lot of non traditional R and I voters....

The GOP has shown repeatedly since then, it has no interest in these voters.. it hasn’t bothered even trying to talk to them, let alone give them a reason to be excited and motivated to turn out this fall. This is going to cost the GOP big, not only in PA, but across the upper mid west/rust belt..... because the GOP refuses to learn the lessons of TRUMP....

I fully expect 10 house seats to flip in the upper midwest alone to Blue.

Right now, the only way I see PA not going blue for Governor and Senator this fall would be for the Dems to stupidly openly run on impeachment,... that would motivate those MAGA/Trump voters to show up in spite of the GOP’s incompetence...

There is a much lesser, but possibly chance that Wagner manages to capture lightning in a bottle and somehow motivates those MAGA voters to show up.... And if that happens the Senate race would got R as well... but that’s a far heavier lift and less likely probability. Because even should Wagner offer the right message, I believe it will be next to impossible to get the national GOP pacs and money to fund and make the right kind of ads to capitalize on it. Frustration with Harrisburg, while out there, is NOWHERE near the frustration with the Federal Government in 2016.... So its going to be quite difficult, particularly without outside money funding the right messaging, to pull that off... but should that happen, then you could see the Governorship and Senate seat go Red... but that’s a very low odds possibility.

Casey is a putz... but he’s a low key putz, and he quietly rides his dad’s name every election.. there is no major groundswell of anger at him personally... Same thing with our Governor... while I dislike him, and conservatives tend to... there isn’t as I stated before a huge groundswell of frustration at the state government that is waiting to be tapped.....

While I would love to see them both lose... my honest assessment is, Casey and Wolfe win re-election comfortably.... unless the Dems openly run on impeachment... or the National GOP realizes it has to say no to its money men, (not likely to happen) and deliver the message that got MAGA voters out to the polls, and not only deliver a message of that, but show between now and November they are following through on it.

and honestly I just don’t see it happening...

Back when Hazleton (they’re touchy about the spelling there) passed the city ordinance the locals were happy as hogs with a belly full of slop in a mud wallow.
The illegals were packing up and moving out left and right. Overnight.

When the court case started I signed some petitions and donated to the city fund every time I passed through.
I was still naive enough to think they could win.

Those folks loved their mayor for fighting the good fight.
I’m hoping he takes the Senate seat. Seems like a good man.

You’re right, though he used to compete with Joe Biden (another doofus from Scranton) for that honor. Is there something in the water in Scranton?
