Lottery winners should be allowed to remain anonymous. Especially in this day and age of social media.
The converse could be said that is a substantial public interest in assuring that the lottery is fair. Allow the winners to be anonymous, and in a couple years it’ll mysteriously happen that all of the winners turn out to be cousins of cousins.
I know a guy who won 9 million in the California lottery in the late 1980s, he was attacked and robbed back then and to this day, still gets several scam artists a day confronting him.
Wasnt there an article on FR within the last 3 months about the Chicago winners of the lottery who chose to form an LLC in order for their names not to be published?
They could make a movie about this...
Just don’t go back to the neighborhood after the press conference.
Have a bank and financial manager all lined up to handle the windfall.
Clean your apartment out of perishables, valuables and necessities and have everything set up beforehand so you have a different place to go where no one knows who you are.
In Hong Kong ALL lottery winners appear in full burkha —kidnapping risk too high.
All gummint people there understand and permit this.
Just walk away from the shithole and stay of social nets, take a long ships cruise.
There was just an identical case in New Hampshire a couple of months ago.A court ruled that the winner could claim the prize anonymously despite what state law said.

Agree with what you said. He’s got to move away from the old neighborhood.
And it is sad to hear what happens with some lottery winners.
Some mismanage money or are taken advantage of by con men.
Others find their relationships to family and friends have changed. People want to borrow money, and/or want you to buy them new cars, or meet other unexpected expenses. Then if you don’t do that for them, you are the bad guy in their eyes.
Life changes after winning such lottery prizes. And not all is for the best, sad to say.
Hire an attorney to stand in for you.

Not all states allow anonymous LLCs. I don’t know about NY.
If I suddenly became wealthy I’d splurge on vehicles. I’d get all new fluids, belts, and a new battery for my 13 year old car, and replace my wife’s 17 year old car with something reliable that was made in the last 5 years.
Six states — Delaware, Kansas, Maryland, North Dakota, Ohio and South Carolina — allow winners to remain anonymous.
