Yeah, wonder what got him pulled off that boat.

Maybe Tom Hanks was looking for him.

Will joyfully send a card.

My Dad missed his 100th last year by a couple of months.

Most likely his CO found out that it was his birthday, and chances were pretty good that everyone on that boat would be dead before to day ended.

My Dad died long before that movie, Saving private Ryan, came out, but from what my Dad told us it was exactly like the movie in real life.

My Dad was a medic and he was awarded a silver and a bronze star for his actions that day.

Nice, Eric!

After my Gramma died, my then-retired grandfather volunteered for Meals on Wheels. It was there that he met his second wife who at the age of 76, had never been married or even with someone. She was quite a lady. Quite devout.

My grandfather was quite good at golf. I bet they would have made a good team for lack of a better word. :)

Thank you for sharing. Have a great day. :-)

He served his country and put his life on the line. He did way more than his fair share. :-)

Thanks for the address. I have a collection of cards, empty, to fill out for just such an occasion. However one says merci on the front. I think I’ll just choose a blank card. LOL

I may need to watch Casablanca again LOL

Your spouse? Once this is passed over coffee klatches and knitting or whatever you know it’s going to go viral. Someone said the guy needs to rent some space.

I do believe so we should also mention that he doesn’t need to feel obligated to respond to everybody. Just enjoy!

OMG...how horrifying

Was it General Patton who said “war is hell?”

Just looked it up. It was General Tecumseh Sherman. During the Civil War probably one of the bloodiest and most damaging to the United States. Brother against brother...

I’m from the ‘burbs...Des Plaines!

Was taking guesses about potential FReeper handles. But they probably won’t be obvious. “ animal lover 99”?

Can’t discriminate against dog lovers or cat lovers. And certainly not bird or fish lovers. LOL. And what about all the worm lovers out there? ;)

I’m sure the WH monitors FR, though.

Tom Hanks? As soon as he finishes falling in love with Meg Ryan and getting Apollo 13 back to the ground he’s right on it. LOL

Yeah, I guess war is hell, or close to it.

My Dad sure had a bunch of stories to tell. He was a medic and he recalled about a solider that 30 cal round right though the head, in one temple and out the other.

He for some miracle wasn’t dead so they patched his head with a rag and waited for him to die. A couple hours later the guy was setting up and eating cold sauerkraut out of can.

As far as my Dad knew the guy lived.
