A Democratic congressional candidate from the state of New Mexico, Pat Davis has found himself in the national spotlight for his viral "**** the NRA" advertisement. Davis is getting even more attention for his interview with Fox News' Tucker Carlson on Tuesday night over another one of his controversial, and false, advertisements where he claims an AR-15 can fire 150 rounds in 15 seconds.

But Pat Davis' controversial gun control advertisements aren't the only controversial thing about the candidate and current Albuquerque city councilor.

In 2013, while chairman of the Albuquerque Metro Crime Stoppers, Pat Davis was arrested on an aggravated DWI charge, where he blew a .16, twice the legal limit.

Hey now. He's a progressive so that should count for, well, nothing. Seems like there is a lot of anti NRA rhetoric flying around in a lot of races this (s)elections season. Primary's included.

Drunk is the last word. Barely exceeded the allowable.

Yeah. I don’t consider .16 all that high. But opinions vary. You’re safer than a texting driver at that level.

I am sick of police officers being touted as gun experts...most of them have less range time than the average gun enthusiast ... barring tactical

I sure hope we will be hearing a lot of positive commentary from Ollie North in the coming year. I love Col North and hope that he has the energy needed to go head to head with the anti-2nd amendment types out there.

Yep. Lots of cops shoot at my range and they are very average range shooters. As a group they are really no better and no worse than the average shooter who spends time at the range. And these are the ones that actually go to the range and practice. I can only imagine about the others.

and false, advertisements where he claims an AR-15 can fire 150 rounds in 15 seconds.

Not as false as people would like to think.

There are many videos on YouTube showing AR-15s equipped with bump-stocks are entirely capable of dumping 150 rounds in 15 seconds. At least I've seen them dump 30 rounds in just under 3 seconds, and dump 100 rounds in about 10 seconds.

An M-16, if you can feed it, has a rate of fire of 950 rounds per minute. This capability was why they added the three round burst option on the fire control selector. But since the AR-15, un like the M-16 is not automatic, it’s fire rate is determined by just how fast you can pull the trigger. The other thing is that I know of no magazine for these rifles that holds more than 40 rounds. So this guy is full of it!

Yeah, even with just the selector on fully semi auto, I can dump 30 rounds in that time frame no problem. Maybe the meant in “spray fire” mode that difi refers to. Also known as “garden hose” mode.

I saw that interview with Tucker. Tucker K.O.’d Davis in the first 30 seconds, and proceeded to mop the floor with him, repeatedly, for the remainder of the time...before Tucker essentially said, “I’ve heard enough, interview over.”

The guy hasn’t got a clue what he’s talking about, but likes to pretend that he does because he used to be a cop. You know, some police officers are, like the population they come from, thoroughly decent, honest and knowledgeable people. Then there are the rest, like Davis, who prove the general rule by being the exception. He’s thoroughly INdecent, a lying sack of dogcrap, and knows only how to parrot lines fed to him by his political handlers.

Let’s hope that the voters of his district see through his facade, and utterly reject him at the polls in November.

Yes, but 150 rounds takes a mag change (or several, depending upon how large they are). You haven’t taken that into consideration.

Just FYI, there are 60-round and 100-round mags out there.

But otherwise, he is definitely full of it. You still have to change mags, even if you come to the event with them pre-loaded.

Oh, and those larger capacity mags have a reputation of being jam-o-matics...so you are probably not going to get off 150 rounds in anywhere near 15 seconds.

“Just FYI, there are 60-round and 100-round mags out there.”

Yeah, I have seen those, but tactically, they are just nuts because of their size and weight. Having the shooter get a hernia trying to lift up an AR with one of them attached and get anything on a target is nuts. Same for bump stocks. I just think it’s a sideshow to talk about fire rates because they are simply a number, but not based in real time situations.

You haven’t taken that into consideration.

True, but that is beside the point. Cyclic rates on full-auto-capable firearms don't take into account mag changes either.

Based on what I've seen in person (30-round dump in 3 seconds), and on YouTube (30-round and 100-round dumps in 3 or 10 seconds, respectively), if you had a 150-round mag, and a bump-stock, it is entirely possible to dump 150 rounds in 15 seconds.
