Can Jim Jordan become top House Republican? (Republican Study Committee open to Speakership)
The Hill ^ | 05/16/18 06:00 EDT | By Scott Wong -

It’s not just conservative hard-liners who are rooting for Rep. Jim Jordan

Several members of the Republican Study Committee (RSC), the largest caucus on Capitol Hill, told The Hill they’d be open to Jordan as well.

In response to Speaker Ryan’s retirement announcement last month, the 54-year-old Jordan expressed interest in running for Speaker. A number of his Freedom Caucus colleagues have been urging him to run, and a handful of conservative groups — including FreedomWorks, Tea Party Patriots and Gun Owners of America — have launched a “Draft Jordan” campaign as well.

Jordan will give a private address to the Council for National Policy, a small group of powerful social conservatives, on Thursday.

“Jim Jordan is a proven conservative. One of his fundamental tenets for governing is that you should do what you promised voters you would do,” said Andy Roth, vice president for government affairs at the outside conservative group Club for Growth. “His candidacy to lead the House GOP is refreshing and much needed.”

“That might be the perfect job for Jim Jordan because of his fighting attitude and his fighting spirit; he doesn’t back down,” one RSC member told The Hill. “I think he would be a tremendous leader.”

Jordan would fit the bill of having an Alpha Male as a leader again.

I’m sick and tired of beta males like Ryan and Mitch the Bitch lording it over us

Fascinating!
If he can win it, it shows that he can Unite the RINOs and conservatives. That’s a tall order.

I do think Scalise can do that, but Jordan would certainly be tops for us.

It will be hysterical to see how long before howls for his head are raised here. And accusations for being a RINO.

I think he could be a vice president in 2024 or beyond, just a guess. America loves that swagger and straight talk frankness!

No hysteria coming because there is not a chance in he77 that the GOPe will let Jim become Speaker.

I don’t see where the 218 votes to make him speaker will come from.

I have seen it over and over here, something positive happens and within the first comments some Negative Nelly has to bring up something negative to spoil the impression.

Speaker is a thankless job and quickly wears out his welcome.

The most important quality for the position is administrative ability not ideological purity. Excessive criticism plays into the hands of the Goebellsmedia.

Along with that is expert knowledge of the regulations and history of the House. These qualities are rarely found.

Obviously or the last three the republicans have fielded wouldn't have been so useless. Ryan has done more to hurt this President than I care to think about and sadly so has Mitch. I don't care how thankless you think it is they both are enemies of the President we elected.
