IG Report on Clinton Investigation “extremely long and thorough”

The Department of Justice Inspector General has sent what is described as an “extremely long and thorough draft” of the much anticipated report on the FBI and DOJ’s investigation and handling of the Hillary Clinton email probe, this reporter has learned. The detailed report on the FBI’s decision making process into the Clinton investigation could lead to possible criminal referrals for some of the officials involved in the case.

Inspector General Michael Horowitz’s report, which is expected to be released within the next three to four weeks to the public, has been turned over to current and former officials for review, as first reported in The Wall Street Journal and Washington Post.

The draft, however, does not include any recommendations for criminal prosecution. If there was any evidence collected by the Inspector General’s office of criminality, Horowitz would then refer the matter to the Department of Justice and submit a criminal referral to prosecutors.

Generally I find that the longer something is the less it says.

At this rate we won’t see anything substantive before July. And Congress goes on recess in August. Sad to see the “Trump” DOJ run out the clock for the Dims.

Extremely long and thorough? Not good for the crooks. If this investigation had zero or little evidence, this would be short. Extremely short...☺

Yep, in an extremely long and thorough way, the report scorches James Comey for unfairly detailing Hillary’s conduct after he had already concluded that she committed no crime.

And further, in an extremely long and thorough way, the report scorches James Comey for announcing on the eve of the election that the FBI had discovered a huge new trove of Hillary’s State Dept emails on Anthony Weiner’s unsecure laptop, when he just should have kept that to himself so as not to affect her chances of winning the election.

If it’s bad for Hillary, it will be long and thorough.

If it’s good for Hillary, it will be even longer and more thorough.

The IG has no power to do that. He can only refer the matter to a U.S. Attorney’s office — which would then have the power to convene a grand jury.

“Unless it recommends a convening a grand jury, this nothing but expensive toilet paper..”

Anyone who thinks that John Huber has been doing dictation with DOJ IG Michael Horowitz for six months will be quite surprised this summer.

Others will note there had to be serious work including of the grand jury variety going on for some time before it was made public.

“Of course,” everyone will say.

It’s supposed to be an investigation. I would guess an investigation would zero in and focus on inconsistent statements with supporting documents, all the documentary evidence, any witnesses etc.

So from my perspective, if the investigation is being described as, “long and extremely thorough” then it’s likely they’ve uncovered significant wrongdoing, ethics issues etc, and these could include criminal wrongdoing.

Sean Hannity said on his radio show today that the DOJ and the FBI will be given the opportunity to redact portions of the IG report.

Sean said if this is true, he will be upset and it’s just more of the same.

“there is an expectation that there will be at least one referral for prosecution”

“The report is expected to focus solely on the Clinton investigation and not on the 2016 Russia election meddling investigation.”

As for the criminal referrals, it would be similar to the outcome of former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe... who was fired after Horowitz’s explosive first report. Horowitz also submitted a criminal referral on McCabe to the DOJ for possible criminal prosecution. It would be up to Washington prosecutors to determine whether or not to move forward”

“The Clinton report is expected to be followed by a third report on the IG’s investigation into the FBI and DOJ’s handling of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) application on Carter Page”

The IG will determine if the requested redactions are warranted, not the person who wants the redaction.

"The draft, however, does not include any recommendations for criminal prosecution."

So much for the vaunted IG's report, and so much for 'Sessions, the silent assassin'.

This process has been f***ing kabuki theater from the very start.

“The IG has no power to do that. He can only refer the matter to a U.S. Attorney’s office — which would then have the power to convene a grand jury.”

There needs to be specific legislation to make sure, going forward that the DOJ cannot do a cover up under the guise of “investigating itself.” There has to be the power to independently investigate the DOJ and that power has to be vested in some entity other than the DOJ itself. Otherwise, we invite continuation of the crap and sedition that’s going on as this is being written.
