Isolated Maduro Revels in Erdogan's Backing Ahead of Venezuela Vote

CARACAS — Venezuela's diplomatically-isolated president received a show of support from Turkish counterpart Tayyip Erdogan on Thursday ahead of a weekend election boycotted by the opposition coalition and decried by Washington.

The United States, the European Union and major Latin American countries have criticized Sunday's vote in which leftist President Nicolas Maduro is likely to win re-election to a six-year term.

Critics say Maduro, a 55-year-old former bus driver who has presided over an economic meltdown, is virtually assured victory as two of his most popular opponents are banned from running and the electoral council is pro-government.

The Trump administration has threatened further sanctions and urged Latin America to cut off Venezuelan officials from financial systems and restrict their travel visas.

So foreign shows of support are particularly welcome as Maduro seeks to legitimize his likely re-election despite a brutal economic crisis that has Venezuelans skipping meals, succumbing to once controlled diseases, and emigrating en masse.

In a split screen chat broadcast live on Venezuelan state television on Thursday, Maduro and Erdogan held a stilted, translated conversation that had several technical problems.

"I wish you much success in the coming election, and a month later I think we're going to have success in Turkey. One of my first tasks will be a state visit to Venezuela," said Erdogan, in reference to Turkey's presidential and parliamentary elections on June 24.

So Turkey is cheering Maduro?

How long until Turkey has reduced his own nation to the level of collapse in Venezuela?

Maduro and Erdogan are pals? That figures.

And why is Turkey in NATO anyway?

Having Erdogan as a ‘friend’ is not going to help you right now. Erdogan is hated by the majority of his people, almost equally with Maduro’s situation. Both countries dissolving, one faster than the other. The mass exodus of citizens has not started yet in Turkey as it has been in Venezuela.

Same thing I was thinking. NATO suicide maybe? Europe is doing a good job at self destruction.

We need to start a poll! Which one of these two will be “offed” by their people first. I’m actually betting it will be Erdogan, the Venezuelans don’t have the balls to kill Maduro. Venezuela will fold when enough of it’s citizens move to Colombia or some other adjacent SA $hit hole country.

I think you’re right. E-Dog will be the first to be ‘neutralized as a threat’ in my opinion.
Israel or Germany may even assist with the mission.
Erdogan has a nasty habit of issuing threats or trying to openly incite violent protests in other countries.

Most recently, both he and the Imans in Iran are trying to incite a crushing rebellion against the new Israeli Embassy in Jerusalem. Anything to further disrupt the region.
Maduro is not known for this tactic. He’s got enough on his plate just trying to stay away from his angry citizens.

Only difference? Turkey has Qatar’s money behind him.

But his own economy is in serious trouble.

US Dollar >———Turkish Lira

$1 >-——————4.46634

Well, that might be possible.

So far they appear to be allies. Unlikely ones, but Allies.

I just returned from a 4 month stay in Colombia. Venezuelans are pouring in. Some estimates claim 2.5 million have fled.

Just three years ago the exchange rate dollars to Lira was $1.00 equaled 1.5 Lira. Turkey is in trouble.

Because it is already the socialist utopia they all want it and the US to be.
