Key Differences Over Denuclearization Put Trump-Kim Summit in Peril

"I think there was a disappointment after Pompeo's visit," said Hill, referring to Secretary of State Mike Pompeo's recent trip to Pyongyang to prepare for the upcoming summit.

"I think they realized that after Pompeo visited Pyongyang, there was no willingness to work out sanctions step-by-step" along with a denuclearization process, Hill said, adding that North Korea is trying to say Trump is "essentially giving nothing for the summit. There is no sanctions relief, no security issues."

Wilder believes North Korea's threat to cancel the summit signifies that it gained a position of leverage over the U.S. after renewing rapprochement with Beijing. He said putting pressure on China will be significant going forward, as he speculates Pyongyang could have received an economic reward from Beijing for closing Punggye-ri nuclear test site, which is close to the Chinese border.

"There are a lot of things going on between the Chinese and the North Koreans that suggests to me that the Chinese are rewarding the North Koreans for closing the nuclear test site," Wilder said.

People should go a little easy on John Bolton. The prime suspect for what caused the latest flareup on N. Korea is probably Xi.

The only thing that puts the summit in peril is that the megalomaniac Kim is certifiably insane.

Sessions looks like a brilliant pick compared to Bolton.

The summit is not a thing unto itself. It’s just a meeting. Leaders take meetings with other leaders, or don’t, depending on the circumstances.

I like John Bolton. He is the right guy with the right approach to deal with the likes of NK and Iran. Somebody should keep him on a leash and always have a “good cop” to balance out his aggressive, no-nonsense approach. But he is very direct and certainly fits the “America First” profile.

NK NEEDS to be bullied. And if China is moving the ball, parley that movement. Use it and steer it. Make it work for us. If China wants to help NK in return for what we want, I would make sure the world knows it and dig in on what we intend to do. Let China spend money propping up that puppet dictator while we increase the squeeze and intensify military exercises.

If NK “tests” any more missiles, they should be shot down before leaving NK airspace (if possible) with no fanfare. Let NK report it and let the President shrug and say, “Yea. I ordered it. I told them, no more missile testing. What about it.? Just another day at the office. Ho-hum.”

I haven’t been the worlds biggest Bolton fan, but he did this perfectly. The main risk in these talks is that it’s just the usual North Korean scam or belligerence, followed by peace overtures in exchange for assistance.

Bolton simply laid it out that the existing nukes must very quickly go to Oak Ridge. If the norks resist, or want to make it part of a multi-year, multi-pronged process, that pretty much tells us that they aren’t serious so we can walk away.

Bolton was perfect here. He only offended diplomats that want this to be a typical US Govt summit arranged by the morons at State.

I think it was unlikely to produce a positive result from the outset. Trump was overly optimistic. But I suppose you have to be positive until it craters, otherwise nothing will happen.

For sure. Xi has Rocketman on a short leash. Don’t doubt it. Been that way for a long time. Food, weapons, energy etc. all flow from the ChiComs.

The ChiComs do not want Korea unified period. They NK will get swallowed like East Germany and they lose the peninsula to the west. They are going to control much of this going forward.

There goes the whole Q psyops. According to Q, N. Korea was being controlled by the CIA. Once their ‘strings were cut,’ Kim was falling all over himself to cooperate.

What utter bunk.

Bingo! It’s a little disconcerting no one on our media figured this out. That includes Fox. China is rich and powerful and can offer plenty to keep NK from any close relationship with us.

“The experts said North Korea’s threat could increase the chance for delaying or even canceling the summit. Christopher Hill, a chief U.S. delegate who negotiated with North Korea during the George W. Bush administration, said, “I would read the chances of a summit right now as well under the 50 percent.””

So someone stepped on the Booshes tail? I mean this a$$hole “negotiated” with NK during the Boosh II Admin, and we can see just how fruitful those “negotiations” were. More face saving by the incompetents GW Boosh surrounded himself with.

Trump should just walk three weeks early.

This is another big fraud, NK is jacking us around again. They will do so until and unless REGIME CHANGE.

You will NOT be able to cut an air tight deal with them. I don’t care WHO the president is or any amount of negotiating power and prowess. They will remain North Korea.

Return to max pressure, max sanctions , and read China the riot act, too, for their complicity in this sham.

It's the KoreaExpertInTokyo! You're really hoping for fail. Why not wait and see if the summit happens? And if it happens, you'll say it will fail. Right? And if it succeeds, you'll say he's lying and hiding his missiles until rocket man is ready to strike. Right?

Thanks for the ping, I always enjoy ringing your bell.☺

Wow, you even have summit fail written on your new tag line. Did you think that up all by yourself? Man, if this thing don't go your way what are you going to do?☺
