VATICAN CITY (AP) -- Four months ago, Pope Francis dug himself into the biggest hole of his papacy by strongly defending a Chilean bishop accused by sex abuse victims of witnessing and ignoring their abuse.
On Friday, he emerged from that debacle after strong-arming the entire Chilean bishops conference to resign for what he said were their "grave defects" in handling abuse cases. He accused them of destroying evidence of sex crimes, interfering with investigations and negligently placing children at risk of being raped by pedophiles.

Francis was just a little ahead of the curve on this.
The left’s mainstreaming of pedophilia is still a few more years out.
And for the Pope there is the bright side to this nuclear option.
He gets to appoint his cronies to fill the vacancies.
Any conservative bishop will be replaced with a Liberal social justice warrior bishop.
I guess Francis will be “retiring” soon, particularly once the full extent of his silence and incompetence becomes known.
Plus accusing them en masse and having them all resign is a convenient way to head off a criminal investigation into which officials were actually involved.
They can have a criminal investigation if they resign or not and it will probably be easier to get people to come forward with facts if they do all resign.
They can and I hope they will, but the precedent is that they won’t.
I always thought he was a dumb guy. Which is not the same from being an evil guy. One can be both.
