Robert Mueller, You’re Starting to Scare Me
New York Times ^ | 22 May 2018 | Frank Bruni

Posted on 05/23/2018 3:48:15 AM PDT by Magnatron

Imagine for a moment that Robert Mueller was never pressed into service as a special counsel and wasn’t a household name. Imagine that there had never been any prompt for his investigation — that Donald Trump hadn’t blown all those kisses at Vladimir Putin, that the stooges and grifters around Trump hadn’t swooned at the prospect of sucking on Mother Russia’s teat, or that there’d been no offer of milk in the first place.

What would we be focusing on right now?

Maybe the just-published Politico report of Trump’s deliberate, cavalier use of a cellphone that doesn’t have strict security safeguards would be getting extra attention. The story outraged me, because it’s yet another glaring example of Trump’s dual set of rules — proper ones that apply to others and nonexistent ones that let him and his clan do as they please — and it puts the lie to his supposed horror over Hillary Clinton’s sloppy email habits. Not for the first time or for the last, he’s being a raving hypocrite.

-snip-

Mueller’s journey down certain tributaries strikes even some observers who aren’t Trump partisans as invasive and punitive. His crawl and sprawl have also given the president the time and the trove of details that he needs to refine his tactics for delegitimizing the investigation. His shameless effort has evolved in sophistication from the reflexive yelp of “witch hunt” to more elaborate and alluring conspiracy theories, including the scenario of espionage within his campaign.

And Trump’s storytelling has takers. A CBS News poll several weeks ago showed that fewer Americans believed Mueller’s investigation to be legitimate (44 percent) than to be politically driven (53 percent).

This is the one and only reason Mueller "scares" this guy.

I've been saying for several weeks that if Mueller tried to shut down his investigation now, the person who would complain the loudest about would be -- get this -- DONALD TRUMP!

I heard about President Trump’s cell phone for the first time yesterday. The very first thought I had was that he didn’t want more ‘undetectable’ spyware installed on his phone.

Actually I wouldn’t be surprised if he didn’t have his own private security checking his ‘personal electronics’ at least once a day. It just seems like a reasonable security precaution a top-drawer businessman would be taking.

When reading this article, I could feel the hate. They are getting desperate, the liberals and the NYT. They can feel the country slipping from their propaganda grasp. New surveys find republicans now +6 points in a generic ballot. Haven’t seen that in decades. New economic data shows lows for unemployment, highs for incomes, and 67% of the country believing we are moving the right direction. Finally, the continued release of facts demonstrating that government was corrupt and weoponized under the liberals is sinking in, that this authors hero’s are nothing more than thugs and treasonous scum.

Wait, it will get worse and worse for them as November approaches. The vanear of a careless Hillary, and an Obamacare administration without scandals will be eclipsed with hard facts. The Grey Lady needs a transfusion of conservative thinking blood and writers, or she will sink in the coming flood.

This is the first I've heard about President Trump refusing to use a secured phone, so I did a bit of Googling and found this Politico article. Excerpt:

The president uses at least two iPhones, according to one of the officials. The phones — one capable only of making calls, the other equipped only with the Twitter app and preloaded with a handful of news sites — are issued by White House Information Technology and the White House Communications Agency, an office staffed by military personnel that oversees White House telecommunications.

While aides have urged the president to swap out the Twitter phone on a monthly basis, Trump has resisted their entreaties, telling them it was “too inconvenient,” the same administration official said.

So he is using fully secured phones. He just isn't having the Twitter phone replaced every month. Not best practice, perhaps, but not the "deliberate, cavalier use of a cellphone that doesn’t have strict security safeguards" that the NYT article suggests.

MORE FAKE NEWS.

Remember Pogo the cartoon possum in the swamp. Well, the NYT is Pogo and Pogo said, “We have met the enemy and they are us.”

Imagine that Jeff Sessions had not recused himself as his first act of “Virtue Signalling” in his new job as Attorney General back in March, 2017.

Then we wouldn’t have to “Imagine for a moment that Robert Mueller was never pressed into service as a special counsel and wasn’t a household name.”

By my reckoning, there’s already proof of attempted obstruction of justice

How can there be obstruction of justice, if there's no underlying real crime? Just process crimes and entrapment.

All the things Bruni finds objectionable in Trump's policy achievements, I support! Bruni does a much better job here detailing Trump's accomplishments, than most of the columnists on our side.

A joy to read!

Politically, Robert Mueller is turning out to be a huge asset to the Trump administration.

His crawl and sprawl have also given the president the time and the trove of details that he needs to refine his tactics for delegitimizing the investigation.

By straying from the Russian investigation it gives more people standing to contest the constitutionality of Mueller's appointment as Mark Levin and his lawyer buddy Steven Calabresi pointed out last night. Did Mueller make a fatal error when arguing the Manafort scope letter didn't matter because he has dual appointment assistant attorneys?

The only reason I can think of for "swapping out" the Twitter phone is to check it for compromises (hacks), and improve hardening (e.g., change passwords, upgrade software). They probably do the same with the other phone.

Hilarious that the author is outraged about this new and probably fake accusation about POTUS and a cellphone, but calls HRC’s setting up an alternative server to do government businesss, a “sloppy email habit”. LOL
