Things are so terrible that America was the world’s top petroleum, natural gas producer in 2017

In case you’re growing tired of waking up every morning and checking social media or reading the Washington Post and hearing about how awful everything is these days, how about some good news? The U.S. Energy Information Administration has finished compiling all of the production numbers for last year and determined that America was the global leader in production of both petroleum and natural gas. And in terms of who else was in the hunt, it wasn’t even close.

Hmmm. Could someone please build a few more refineries? Please. If we're awash in petro, I guess I must be reading the gas pumps incorrectly lately. Don't store it, refine it in a shiny new facility.

In December, New York became the 2nd state after Vermont to prohibit hydraulic fracturing ("fracking") statewide. Although a few others have joined in, New York is the only state with significant shale gas potential to ban fracking, “the most important, and the biggest, energy innovation of this century.”

Once again, New York State shoots itself in the foot. In a few years things will be so bad liberals will start moving out.

We’re exporting most of what we produce. This is great for US GDP but not so good for local prices. We should be standing up more storage and refining facilities and dedicating a set percentage to local consumption. My truck treats me well in all other ways except at the pump.

Well, if they shoot themselves in the foot it won’t be with Hornady ammo. LOL!

Yup. Truck and car are both here to stay. Both paid for and we wouldn’t be able to support car notes these days. ;-)

The problem with building a new refinery is that most potential sites respond with “not in my back yard”. Combine that with EPA foot dragging and the result is the current bottleneck of mass production but limited refinement equals high prices domestically. But higher world demand for oil products helps our balance of payments problem, especially given the lower output of OPEC for various reasons.

And the switch over from winter to summer mandated blends doesn’t help.

“Make America Gas Again?”

Give America Gas Again! And who better to represent that than our own Lady GAGA.

New York should shoot itself in the head.

No fracking in your state? You pay 3-5X for your gasoline.

You can thank the ethanol and biomass mandates and subsidies and the DOE has doubled down on this counterproductive boondoggle, with Trump, so far, joining in.

Next up subsidized gasoline prices (its our oil and gas), price controls on natural gas (must all share the pipelines), heavy extraction fees (greedy oil companies) and tariffs on imported oil (buy American keep our oil industry competitive). There is great support for these on FR.

Gasoline is historically cheap. Examine the wholesale price of non-boutique gasoline adjusted for inflation and dollar devaluation.

"We’re exporting most of what we produce."

I suspected that. Where is that trade war when you need it?
