UPDATED with details of charges: As expected, Harvey Weinstein turned himself in to the New York Police Department at the 1st Precinct in Tribeca this morning to face criminal charges stemming from multiple sexual assault allegations. Facing potentially years behind bars, sources say Weinstein is likely looking at first degree and third degree rape charges and a first degree criminal sexual act charge from the Manhattan District Attorney’s office.
Once the most powerful producer in Hollywood, Weinstein exited the precinct house at about 8:45 AM ET in handcuffs, escorted into a waiting car. The New York Police Department issued a statement saying he had been arrested and charged with rape, criminal sex act, sex abuse and sexual misconduct for incidents involving two separate women.
“The NYPD thanks these brave survivors for their courage to come forward and seek justice,” police said in the statement obtained by Deadline. “The arrest and ensuing charges are the result of a joint investigation between the NYPD and the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office.”
Though accused by close to 80 women, the charges apparently center on three incidents within the Empire State’s statute of limitations: former Boardwalk Empire actor Paz de la Huerta has claimed that Weinstein raped her twice in 2010, and a 2004 occurrence where college student Lucia Evans said the Hollywood mogul compelled her to perform oral sex on him.

So these women went to the police and filed these charges in 2010 and 2004?
Rape kits are VERY helpful in these situations.

Don’t get me wrong, It’s obvious this guy is a scumbag, but I can’t see how you can convict someone of rape on someone’s word alone.

Meryl Streep said he was “god”; of course, Meryl Streep also ruined a lot of apple farmers over some phony “alar” scare and she is a consistent champion of left wing politics, just like “Harvey”.
Yep... as I said on another thread, he'll plead all this down, resulting in a 1-year stay at a plush, minimum-security vacation spot of his choosing. Celebrities don't face the same ramifications as the little people.

If he’s guilty, I hope he gets convicted in a fair trial. However, I am skeptical - not on whether he’s a scum but on whether there is proof beyond a reasonable doubt that he’s a rapist. I am also skeptical on whether he will get a fair trial. Will his money buy lawyers who can get an acquittal even though the evidence proves his guilt, or will the current national mood lead to a conviction based on weak evidence? A trial could go either way.
Note: While Weinstein is a scum, I don’t see a crime in his casting couch habits. The real victims are not the women who trade their personal attention for a role in his movies - they chose to participate in a transaction and were well paid for their services (even better than Stormy with her $130k from Trump’s lawyer plus who knows how much from other sources for not talking about and then for talking about her alleged evening with a billionaire). The real victims are the actresses who lost out because they chose to make it (or not) on talent alone.
Ok. So this extremely unattractive man has found himself holding the keys to something that millions of very young and attractive women in the world want.
Every single night for 30 years he arranges to have one of these beautiful young women meet him in his hotel room. Some of these women want this item more than others. Many give themselves away for it and are rewarded. Some decide that Harvey is just too hideous and they don’t want to be a movie star THAT bad and they slip away.
Then there are the % of young beautiful ladies that give themselves away but they are terrible in bed. Some of them are talented actresses and are rewarded for their skills. Some of them are crappy in bed and on screen. They sleep with this pig and get nothing for their efforts.
They file rape charges 10 years after the supposed act.
Here’s a question: What did NYS and NYC LE know and when did they know it.
That’s just about everything I have trouble with on this situation. I don’t see a crime. If there is a crime, I don’t see any real chance that it can be proven. It’s possible that one or more actresses came to his room expecting a verbal (oral?) contract with a promise of a role in return for their services and really were forcibly raped without getting that agreement or giving consent, but how do you prove that? How do you prove it’s not just gross people being gross?

When I think of all the powerful powerful Dems and Hollywood celebs kissed this guys ring, it makes me laugh. All these “women’s rights” champs were all to eager to take his money. Anyone remember the supposed GOP “War on Women?” What a sick joke,
And I don’t buy for a hot second that everyone of these libs didn’t know full well what Harvey was doing. It was accepted Hollywood culture to brutalize women on the casting couch.
