Putin blasted Trump's trade fights without ever saying his name

Russian President Vladimir Putin took US President Donald Trump to task over a recent increase in trade barriers and an abandonment of the international trade order, all without saying his counterpart's name.

In a speech at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, Putin disparaged recent trade protectionism from countries including the US and urged nations to recommit to free trade.

"We do not need trade wars or even temporary trade truces," Putin told a crowd of world leaders. "We need full-time trade peace."

In addition to the general comments about protectionism, Putin also specifically attacked Trump's recent tariffs. Without specifically mentioning the US, the Russian president criticized the use of national security as a rationale for trade barriers.

Trump's recent steel and aluminum tariffs were predicated on national security grounds, and the newly-announced investigation into auto imports is using the same rationale. Trade experts have criticized the move and said the explanation undermines the international trading order.

In reference to the disruption of the World Trade Organization rules, Putin said, "breaking rules is now the rule."

Vlad, “Fair and reciprocal” is not a complicated concept, although execution may be more complicated.

Putin happily holding the mantle for globalism and klepto-capitalism. And Macron, LaGarde, and EU-crats seem all too happy to join his order longside Iran and China. They forge their pact under euphemisms like “Paris Climate Accord” , “Iran Nuclear Deal”, and “Two State Palestine Solution.”

Isn’t Germany already on board with the NordStream pipeline? Russian oligarchs riding high.

Lame.

And barely a peep from the EU-crats at the St. Petersburg forum about the proof Australia and the Netherlands (the Hague) have to incriminate Russia on the downing of Malaysian Airlines flight MH17 that killed 298 people in East Ukraine. Instead Russia is rewarded with billions of dollars in new investments and contracts. And Trump is made the outlier.

Figures.

Unless you are going to supply gas from your rear end it has to come from somewhere.

The Dutch government said on Thursday it will phase out gas production at the Groningen field, once Europe’s largest, by 2030 as part of efforts to reduce the danger caused by small but damaging earthquakes.

"The European Union reiterates its full support for the United Nations Security Council Resolution 2166, which demands that those responsible for the downing of flight MH17 on 17 July 2014 be held to account and that all States cooperate fully with efforts to establish accountability," EU High Representative Federica Mogherini said in her declaration on behalf of the EU on the findings of the Joint Investigation Team on the downing of flight MH17.

Natural gas is at record low prices. There are plenty of alternatives to Russia. It’s just that Europe prefers to feed the beast while lecturing Uncle Sam. Heck, even Thatcher preferred to feed the beast.

Can they get the gas...from us? Hah. I am not a gas expert, but believe “America First” makes for a better world order that ends up benefiting everyone not just us. Why put Russia and China at the helm where they don’t need to be?

So even from an objective point of view, I agree with Trump appointee and US Ambassador to Germany, Richard Grenell: “The implementatoon of NordStream 2 is in Europe’s interests.”
