CHINESE warships have confronted US Navy vessels today in what has been described as a “serious incident”.

The tense naval drama unfolded after the American warships sailed near South China Sea islands claimed by China.

The presence of the US warships was slammed by Beijing just as President Donald Trump seeks to make peace with North Korea to avoid a serious war breaking out.

The operation in the South China Sea was the latest bid to counter what Washington condemns as brazen efforts to take control of the strategical important seas.

The hotly contested region is also rich in fossil fuels which China desperately needs to feed is industrialising economy with cheap energy.

While this naval drills had been planned months in advance, and similar operations have become routine, it comes at a particularly sensitive time.

It comes just days after the Pentagon uninvited China from a major US-hosted naval drill.

Sensationalism by the Scottish Sun.

Everyone who understand the relative power of the two navies knows the Chinese would never fire on the US Navy at sea.

They are not in the suicide business.

That’s right. Even China isn’t that stupid.

Suicide by China is not my concern but killing our sailors is indeed a MAJOR CONCERN. One shot fired at one of our ships should open the doors for the wrath of God to fall upon their nation. There should be NO MERCY! Time to quit pussy footing around and play for keeps.

Not exactly clear on what ‘the incident’ was, and whether it has been resolved.

“It’s not your dad’s navy or even your navy anymore.”

Correct.

It’s far more combat capable.

The way our Navy has been run lately, they probably give our ships a wide berth just to avoid a collision!

“Is that what’s it’s all about?”

No.

China is trying to establish a plausibly effective buffer between the 7th Fleet and its mainland.

“Not exactly clear on what ‘the incident’ was”

China sent a few ships to the general area to observe. Then lodged a public protest, and threatened to whatever necessary to protect their sovereignty.

That’s it.

Obama let the Iranian Navy slap us around.

One would hope Trump doesn’t have the same pathological need to surrender as Obama.

Freedom of navigation passes on the Chinese built coral rock piles is nothing new and the Chicks are known for getting a little testy at times.

The Scots are drawing conclusions about it ....the oil/gas potential and the canceling of their invite....without any clear facts.

FONOPs will continue under President Trump regardless of the Chinese semantics being played out....because we can.

Meanwhile our DDG turned rooster tails in their general vicinity...maybe radiated some fire control radar.

Sorry, but that simply is not true. Half the Navy's aircraft are not air worthy and the DDG’s can't go to sea without running into lumbering cargo ships. Over a third of the carriers are down for maintenance. Good news is that the number at sea is up from two years ago. Cruisers are being retired and staffing levels are critical in most classifications. It will take decades to undo )’s impact on the Navy.
