The solemn ritual of a burial with military honors is repeated dozens of times a day, in foul weather or fair, at Arlington National Cemetery, honoring service members from privates to presidents. But in order to preserve the tradition of burial at the nation’s foremost military cemetery for future generations, the Army, which runs Arlington, says it may have to deny it to nearly all veterans who are living today. 10

Didn’t Bill Clinton get one of his cash patrons buried there even though the guy wasn’t a veteran?

Yep. And he had to be dug up and removed.

I love the irony of the Union’s malice towards Robert E. Lee by turning his front yard into a cemetery which later becomes the most hallowed ground on US soil.

Old English churches reuse existing plots after a few hundred years. Perhaps Arlington could do that, or bury in the spaces between the oldest plots

"...We can exhume Ted Kennedy... this will give us room for one more..."

Realistically, at least five more. My dad is buried there, and you have no idea how much it irritates me that Ted Kennedy is buried there.

If Arlington weren't such a special place, I would bring a bottle of Chivas with me to pour over Ted Kennedy's grave to show him how I feel about him.

After passing over my kidneys, of course.

I am of the opinion that the Civil War veterans could be exhumed, cremated and placed in a mausoleum built on the grounds.

I say we dig up Teddy Kennedy and bury him in the nearest landfill. That would free up one space.
