Democrats may be in for a surprise in 2018
Washington Post ^ | May 28 2018 | Joe Scarborough

Posted on 05/30/2018 5:30:51 AM PDT by yesthatjallen

The Republican Party’s dance with President Trump has long been marked by fits and starts. And for much of that troubled relationship, it has been hard to grasp why so many conservatives would sell their political souls to a man who wallows in racist stereotypes, questions federal judges’ legitimacy, flogs the free press, undermines Madison’s constitutional norms, declares war on America’s intelligence community, and attacks Justice Department and FBI leaders he appointed for refusing to kill special counsel Robert S. Mueller III’s investigation.

SNIP

Even after his calling for a Muslim ban in 2015, professing ignorance of former Ku Klux Klan leader David Duke in 2016, defending white supremacists in 2017 and calling out Hispanic “breeding” in April, Trump still enjoys steadfast support among most Capitol Hill Republicans. Many GOP politicians are so affected by his corrupting influence that they forced the Justice Department and the FBI to expose a source while desperately trying to derail the government’s investigation into Russian attacks on America’s democracy.

SNIP

For starters, they can point to Trump’s conservative judicial nominees beyond Gorsuch as cause for celebration. But their talking points can also include massive tax cuts, a bigger military budget, regulatory reform and the gutting of the Environmental Protection Agency. Other wedge-issue winners include the planned withdrawal from the Paris climate accords, scrapping of the Iran nuclear deal, undermining Obamacare, moving the U.S. Embassy in Israel to Jerusalem, attacking federal employee unions and promoting extreme immigration policies. Add to that the mocking of political correctness and identity politics, and you have a platform sure to inspire the activists who drive today’s Republican Party.

ETC...

Oh, the huge manatee! President Trump is keeping his campaign promises!

- Trump’s conservative judicial nominees
- massive tax cuts,
- a bigger military budget,
- regulatory reform
- the gutting of the Environmental Protection Agency
- planned withdrawal from the Paris climate accords (”accord” not treaty),
- scrapping of the Iran nuclear deal (”deal” not treaty),
- undermining Obamacare,
- moving the U.S. Embassy in Israel to Jerusalem (as approved by Congress many years ago),
- attacking federal employee unions
- promoting extreme immigration policies (i.e., following the laws approved by our elected Congress)
- the mocking of political correctness and identity politics.

Yes. That’s why decent people voted for President Trump.

Joe, you ignorant slut!

flogs the free press

The "press," of which you're a part, is anything but free. You are the propaganda organ of the progressive arm of the democrat socialists of America, and CPUSA (Communist Party, USA.) "Free?" Not in the least. Bought, paid for, and completely in the bag.

A competent and objective journalist would look into each and every claim attacking President Trump.

Does Trump really wallow in racist stereotypes?

Does Trump really question federal judges’ legitimacy?

Does Trump unjustifiably flog the free press?

Does Trump really undermine Madison’s constitutional norms?

Has Trump unjustifiably declared war on America’s intelligence community?

Is there a basis for Trump's attacks on certain Justice Department and FBI leaders?

The writer must get his negative information about Trump from CNN. The writer appears to be wallowing in his hysterical hate for Trump, because he accepts without question anything negative. Is that really journalism?

President Trump has been proven correct in all of his judgements and claims, from being spied on during the election to every one of the baseless accusations.

Free press? You might want to ask Rosanne about free press....unlike the View women, her comments cost her quite a bit...

Joe’s function on MSLSD, is to try to translate reality into terms that liberals can understand - drip by drip, with lot’s of sugar coating, because they can’t handle the unvarnished truth.

Not that I’m going to waste too much time on this, but

“a man who wallows in racist stereotypes”

You mean the man who’s been recognized for helping minorities time after time?

“questions federal judges’ legitimacy”

If it quacks like a duck...

“flogs the free press”

He has little but praise for Fox News, which is the only thing resembling ‘free press’ on the major networks...

“undermines Madison’s constitutional norms”

Which, exactly?

“declares war on America’s intelligence community”

They declared war on him first...

“and attacks Justice Department and FBI leaders he appointed for refusing to kill special counsel Robert S. Mueller III’s investigation”

I don’t recall him doing that, but he’s right to point out that Mueller was given far too much power, and that the ‘investigation’ (witch hunt) should be over by now.

“his calling for a Muslim ban in 2015”

Given that Muslims are astronomically more likely to commit terrorist acts than other groups, this seems reasonable...and it was never to be a permanent ban, only until vetting was in place. (BTW, I don’t believe ‘extreme vetting’ is in place today...)

“professing ignorance of former Ku Klux Klan leader David Duke in 2016”

For God’s sake, he didn’t know what the “nuclear triad” was during one of the debates. Give the guy a break!

“defending white supremacists in 2017”

FAKE NEWS!

“and calling out Hispanic “breeding” in April”

Are you claiming that Hispanic’s don’t have a far higher birthrate than the general population, Joe? President Trump just has an earthy way of speaking... ;-)

OK, so I got a bit carried away. I have just one more thing to say:

WINNING!!!

What the left doesn’t like about Trump is what normal people love about him.

The left is just too dense to understand the concept that normal people don’t think like them because they don’t have the same mental illness.

Leftist thinking is abnormal thinking.

What the left is concerned about isn’t the amount of conservative support Trump will get. No, they’re becoming increasingly concerned about the support he’ll get from the vast middle of the electorate.

And that concern has got to be growing when they look at their candidates who are winning primaries. The farther left a candidate is, the more likely they’ll knock off a Democrat candidate who has a chance of appealing to independents/moderates, especially if that far-left primary candidate is a woman.

We’re hearing nothing of this concern from the liberal press, or from the liberal leadership, but they’ve got to be getting concerned that their most politically-involved voters are picking candidates that would be perfectly comfortable taking seats in a communist government.

If the press were to address this simple fact, it would alert independent voters as to just how off the rails the Democrat Party has driven, so we won’t hear of it from them. The GOP needs to hammer this point hard, as do all of the GOP candidates.
