This is why liberals must indoctrinate your children.

They cannot reproduce biologically.

Childless yuppies are mostly ‘dogs’ thus less children.

There are some animal FReaks here who have basically put humans on notice they’d kill you in a heartbeat over their pet (idol).

People do what they’re incentivized to do. If you make it too hard for responsible people to have babies, they won’t have babies.

Has anyone ever stopped to think society may actually be better off with these sorts of folks not having kids...?

Don’t we already see the results of half-assed parenting with kids?

Animals are vastly more important to many people.

That was obvious to me a few years back during the Michael Vick issues. There were many people protesting and such around DC at the time about Vick. But, in that area a guy from Liberia raped a relative who has 7 and abused another girl who was 18months. The charges were dropped against him. He was finally deported, but nobody came to the defense of those girls or protested .gov or the man.

In many areas, especially DC or Austin. They raise pets instead of children. There is always fights over parks, where pets outnumber the kids.

Property taxes are evil. Truly.

Worth more to whom? If you can’t sell because that nice, high assessment means a buyer can’t afford the property taxes that go with it, you’re screwed. That’s the way in works in my neck of the woods.

What sorts of folks? For pete’s sake, have you guys seen the price of existing homes in some of these places? If you’d like to have one parent stay home, you can’t afford one. If you’d like to have more kids but need an extra bedroom, you can’t afford one. I know seniors still in huge homes who are paying next to nothing in prop taxes because they get a number of tax breaks, which means there’s less incentive to downsize which would free up more existing homes for families with kids. Tax policies like this are a recipe for disaster.

Disaster, only if one really wants the place to be populated by middle class families. It would still be a shangri-la for singles.

If these people seem to prefer pets over kids, perhaps its better for them to have pets, rather than kids. Not everyone’s cut out to be parents.

... basically, the place is evolving to meet the kind of local demand it has. Don’t expect a capital and college town to look like Mr. and Mrs. and Miss and Master Redneck City.

Farms are definitely a factor! Even for cats too (barn cats).

Prefer? Make assumptions much? Yes, some folks don’t want kids. If both parties agree, then that’s their choice and they won’t get any static from me. But not everyone is childless by choice. And God help you if you have to find that out the hard way.

Well, when you’ve got fed, state, and local governments screwing with the market with their tax policies, I’m not sure a concept like supply and demand means much.

I’m sick of Millenial dogs. I’m staying in a hotel right now in a Western city and of course people here with their mutts, some of which are howling in the rooms even now. One girl was breathlessly telling the desk clerk that she had brought her (elderly Lab) here from some midwestern city for cancer treatment, even though, of course, the dog probably only would have had another year anyway and now will have a miserable year.

The other thing that has priced out residential formerly child-friendly neighborhoods is VRBO and AirBnB, because a lot of these people will buy other houses in the neighborhood, not as long term rentals, but as weekend rentals. Sometimes investors from outside who have never even seen the neighborhood will buy them for that purpose.

So this drives the prices up enormously, empties out the neighborhood, decreases the school age population and thus makes the local school unimportant, and benefits nobody except the childless Millenial owners and their dog.
