What If 2006 Model Isn't Enough for Democrats?

It can often be useful for elections analysts to find a previous election to cite as a model for the current one. For example, Brendan Nyhan was fond of referring to 2012 as “Bizarro 2004,” where the Democratic campaign ran roughly on the same trajectory as the Republican campaign of just eight years earlier (and even concluded with a similar margin). There are a number of potential analogues for this year’s midterms, but my mind keeps wandering back to 2006. Here’s the interesting thing: A year like 2006 might not be enough for the Democrats to take the House.

The GOP’s 2006 campaign started promisingly enough. In 2002, Republicans had surprised most observers by picking up seats in a midterm election while holding the presidency for the first time since Reconstruction (Democrats had done so twice). They followed this up with a substantial win in the 2004 presidential election, enlarging their majorities in both houses of Congress.

The year the GOP needs to focus on is the year Watergate was on TV live 12 hours a day for months. How the GOP can be so unimaginably stupid as to not seize this opportunity i honestly cannot fathom but there it is. The Stupid Party. It is getting really old.

"What If 2006 Model Isn't Enough for Democrats?"
AKA "Lie about what you represent, and when in the majority, implement policy that your voters did not want or ask for."

It might work with some, but I think a good number of people are onto it.

The whole underlying thrust of the article is “What can we in the media do that will ensure that the Democrats gain control of Congress? So far nothing seems to be working and people aren't responding to the anti Trump media blitz!”

It’s not. The blind disdain for Trump by the Establishment Media has effectively made them almost non-factors in the 2018 mid-term election.

This moron thinks Democrats are even money to win back the House. He works for Real Clear Politics that will accept poll results written in crayon as long as it shows Republicans losing. Schmuck thinks Democrats are ahead in generic polls by around 5 points? Dope doesn’t realize the difference between then and now is that Trump and Wikileaks have exposed the media as frauds that now have no power to sway anyone with their lies. Bur bigger problem ignored by this fool is the Democrats have no platform besides hate Trump repeal 2 A repeal Trump tax cuts Impeach Trump open borders and steal reparation money from White Christians to buy Black votes. Democrats lose big. Republicans who don’t deserve to win anything pick up 12 in Senate (yes 12) and at least that many in House. No? Then which winning issue saves them from this?

2006 model will not work because Marxist Radicals have greatly expanded their influence in the Dem Party. They will NEVER allow the Rahm Emmanuel strategy of nominating Blue Dog moderates to gain seats.

The major media’s ability to brainwash the public has been greatly reduced in the last decade.

Their main target audiences are nursing home residents and urban hard-core “intellectuals”.

Good luck with that!
