More Drivers Killed Under the Influence of Drugs Than Alcohol
US News & World Report ^ | 05/31/18 | Alexa Lardieri

Some 22.3 percent of fatally injured motorists who were tested for drugs tested positive for marijuana in 2016, a figure that researchers say has "increased substantially" in recent years as states have legalized the drug for recreational or medicinal use, according to a new report.

The finding, in a study released Thursday by the Governors Highway Safety Association, was one of several regarding the growing prevalence of drugs in vehicle fatalities. The report also found that 44 percent of drivers killed in automobile accidents in 2016 who were tested for drugs tested positive for one or more substances – a number that was up 28 percent from 10 years prior. That figure eclipsed the 37.9 percent who were known to have been tested for alcohol and tested positive – a figure that actually fell in the last decade, from 41 percent in 2006.

Only fools believe marijuana was the CAUSE of all those fatal accidents, especially since its metabolites remain in the system for 30+ days after use.

Pot has become a Religion. The Fact that a good portion of the Population is driving around stoned out of their minds, and killing people, is a byproduct.

Translation = Our level of spending is outpacing drunk driving fines and yellow light camera fines, that we now need a new revenue stream. That it may make roads safer is not a concern here.

Watch ‘LivePD’ more people are driving under the influence of Pot than of alcohol. Its become a joke watching the show, and counting the amount of times the Cops smell grass during the pullovers.

Pot causes brain damage and permanent cognitive problems, as well as inducing psychosis in a significant percentage of users. Not to mention lung problems, COPD and lung cancer. It has all the same carcinogens as tobacco.

Watch ‘LivePD’

I watch that show religiously and the drivers pulled over who are found to have marijuana either in the car, on their person, or had recently smoked, were pulled over for other reasons besides erratic driving.

You don't typically see those drivers pulled over for erratic driving.

My experience is that pot smokers feel that it is OK to smoke all day long. They can toke up at breakfast and keep it up all day. I don’t know any drinkers like that. My BIL is that way with weed and he works in a sawmill.
Weed messes with your reaction times. I always felt about 3 beats slower when I used it in college.

And pot legalization laws didn’t change that people can’t drive under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

And, they need to set a level, safe for driving, if they can.

From what I’ve observed during my regular 35-40,000 miles driving each year (for many years) I’ve concluded that poor/agressive driving accounts for far more fatalities than drugs and alcohol combined.

Indeed. And finding something legal in the blood at traffic accidents doesn’t mean causation. Oh, and it’s interesting to note from the headline that alcohol is not a drug.

“More Drivers Killed Under the Influence of Drugs Than Alcohol”

Pot is detectable for a month after use, so that statement is, as you said, completely unsupported. Some percentage of those drivers, and probably a very high percentage, weren’t high at the time.

I have noticed one thing about these “studies:” none of them *ever* discuss this. They all seem to suggest that every time pot is “detected,” the driver was impaired.

This is similar to the conduct of the alcohol Nazis, who count as “alcohol related” any accident in which anyone in any of the involved vehicles had had any amount of alcohol.

If a passenger in a car rear-ended at a stop light had a beer three hours previously, that is an “alcohol-related accident.”

If a driver of a car involved in an accident smoked pot a month ago, then pot is to blame—with no mention of who was at fault in the accident.

Rule #1: prohibitionists lie. How can we believe them about anything, when they are habitual liars?

Half the nation will test positive for Cannabis for the next 30 days.

It's because our bodies do not recognize cannabis as a foreign substance. That's why it stays in our system for so long. All other drugs are quickly filtered out.

The percentiles are not a factual representation of the number of accidents caused by driving while stoned.

Reefer Madness is NOT a factual documentary!
