This -- above all else -- is why the Left is doing and will continue to do whatever is necessary to prevent President Trump from nominating anyone -- let alone two or even three people -- to the USSC.

The Left simply cannot let this happen as they would then not be in control of any of the three branches of the federal government (except to the extent that the GOPEs allow them to which, in the case of the Legislative Branch, is considerable given the current leadership in Congress).

Thus, the Left's Number One priority is to "Get Rid of Trump" (or, as "progressives" prefer to say, "Resisting") ... and because they have been so ineffective toward this objective more than a few on the Left are -- literally -- losing their mind!

With speculation mounting over the possible retirement of supreme court justice Anthony Kennedy, Trump could have a lasting impact on reshaping America’s most important court.

Thank Goodness. AND, use the nuclear option right out of the box, majority vote, get'r done.

Oh, and as usual the Manchester Guardian lied.

Republicans did not change the rules allowing for judges to be confirmed by a simple majority vote. Harry Reid did when the Democrats held the majority.....the widely discussed “nuclear option”. It was they who broke with centuries of tradition. The Republicans the returned the favor.

As for whining about Garland, I’ve got two words for you: Robert Bork.

Kennedy (swing vote) is 81
RBG (farthest left judicial activist) is 85
Breyer (far left judicial activist) is 79

Not counting health issues in the other far-left activists, and conservatives (Thomas and Alito) perhaps retiring because they are 69 and 68 and want judges who follow the rule of law to replace them, that’s at least three far-left seats that President Trump has a good chance of filling. I love it when every day is a nightmare for America’s enemies on the left.

hmmm, It my understanding that the number of justices is not set in stone. That being the case, Trump should put forth his nomination now. It will take at least a year to get someone confirmed, so that justice would be ready to step in on the DAY any justice is no longer in office.

I really enjoy the term “come a cropper”. My two favorite British ladies, Maggie Thatcher, and Diane Barron would both have been comfortable with this phrase. It’s use makes me smile. Your use of the term is so appropriate. Thanks.

could have profound consequences on issues ranging from women’s reproductive health

Liberals just can't be honest, saying "women's reproductive health" when they mean "keeping baby killing legal".

“I’m a tad older than RBG-——you make it sound as if we are some strange species.”

Some people think they’ll never reach your age ... they’re probably my age (mid 40s) ... we were trained by our overlords an media idiots at MTV that life ends at 27 or something stupid like that. That’s probably why some people treat older people like trash making comments like that.

One of my best friends is 68 years old ... served in Vietnam and has taught me more about life, the universe, and everything than most college professors I’ve had :-). I hope I make it up there and beyond so that I’m at risk of dying of pneumonia the minute I fall and break my hip :-) (actually, that kind of happened to my grandmother in her early 80s ... she broke her hip and made it a couple years, but passed after an illness related to her liver (which is why I always get mine checked every five years :-) ).

“If only RBG would follow Antonin Scalia’s example”

What, get herself murdered by the forces of evil because they thought Obunghole or Felonia von Pantsuit would be choosing her replacement?

I’m a tad older than RBG-——you make it sound as if we are some strange species.

When a patient breaks a hip he/she is typically bedridden for at least a few days...and longer for older people. When an older person is bedridden for any length of time they tend to develop pneumonia...a condition that's more and more dangerous the older one gets.

I know this from having worked for years in a big city ER.We'd regularly get little old ladies in from nearby nursing homes after having fallen and fractured their hips.

Often,as these patients were being taken up to the ortho floor the nurses would say something like "she won't leave here alive".When saying saying that they had pneumonia in mind.

I’m actually thinking in terms of two terms in office, eight years.

I believe Ginsberg and Kennedy are rather likely.

Then there is at least one other with health issues.

I don’t believe it’s out of the question that he might get as much as a fifth nomination in.

Of course it could remain at one if everyone stays healthy and they have an aversion to Trump getting another nomination too.

It will be interesting to watch.

I believe there will come a time when folks will be ashamed to admit they took a pass on voting for Trump or heaven forbid actually voted for Hillary.

I believe you're right Doughty...

Um, no....a FOURTH pick would fit that bill. Hopefully Comrade Ginsberg and the Dopey Latina will leave us sooner than expected.
