SHANGHAI—Long derided as a casino, China’s once-volatile stock market is going through a long stretch of calm. One reason is an orchestrated government effort to keep traders and investors in line.

Three years after a national uproar when Chinese stocks plunged by nearly half in just over two months, traders and brokers say regulators are increasingly stepping in to influence trades and make China’s markets appear less volatile, especially during political events when Beijing wants to project stability.

Chinese stocks are included for the first time today in a global index MSCI, which in turn will affect investment funds.

Never in over 25 years... has the state been so involved and interfering in micro issues," said Fraser Howie, an independent analyst and author of Privitzing China: Inside China's Stock Markets.

Lin Yunan, an investor in Shantou, said he received a government warning... when he sold and quickly bought back around $325000 worth of stock during the time of a meeting of Chinese political leaders.

He had to promise to refrain from such behavior in the future to avoid harsher punishments such as a trading ban.

I mean the Chinese Fascist Party stock market.

I would really like Americans on the left who use the word “fascist” to slur anyone to the right of them to understand what it actually means.

A pet hopeless endeavor of mine.

Communist Chines still run things. They really dont care a whit if people are reduced to penury - THEY can always RULE at the point of a gun.

The artificial economy there has always simply been the tool of the communnists.

Truthfully, the US market managers probably recommended that China do these things, *copying* US markets. Probably also that they need to have stricter micromanagement than the US, because Chinese players aren’t as disciplined, yet.
