Construction started Friday on the US-Mexico border wall project at ...San Diego County.

The work will replace about 14 miles of scrap metal wall that stands up to 10 feet high with a wall between 18 and 30 feet tall. The new wall will also have an anti-climbing plate.

Crews will build the wall starting half a mile from the Pacific Ocean, east to the bottom of Otay Mountain in East County.

Now there are three different segments going up at the same time - this 14 miles in San Diego, 2 miles in Calexico, and 20 miles outside El Paso. Still waiting for the pending award of the big 33 miles in the Rio Grande Valley - where the traffic is heaviest of the whole border.

Here goes the old stuff that is being replaced by 18 to 30 foot bollards, with deep Concrete foundations, anti-climbing plates, patrol road and more:

While the media focuses on Russia, porn stars, Roseanne, etc., The Wall goes up right under their noses.

I knew it would happen this way.

That is FY18 funding from the recent Omnibus.

Two layers of barrier were funded for San Diego this year, 14 miles each.

The new stuff is going to be much taller, stronger and more durable (will stop even a large truck from ramming), and will have lots of extra infrastructure and features - roads, lights, sensors, anti-climbing plates, anti-tunneling foundations.

Who is being fooled? The wall is going up despite the efforts of those opposed to it and their media toadies.

If the funding comes from "old appropriations" it is a wise move getting more bang for the buck already allocated. In theory that makes the new wall "no cost" just like the campaign promise.

He’s doing well considering the Rats and Pubs oppose him at every turn.

If we give him good midterm results, watch him go!

Baldwin better be careful. They might send a Mexican cartel gang member to assassinate him.

That’s not so much border wall construction as border wall improvements or repair.

This is a good start...you’ll see much more money in the next budget. And don’t forget for every mile of newer walling replacing old fence that can be breached easily, funnels the illegals into more easily patrolled areas of the border.
