For the first time since 2015 Illinois may actually have a budget in place before the start of the new fiscal year.

Illinois House lawmakers voted Thursday to approve a $38.5 billion state budget plan by a vote of 97-18

*snip*

The budget also finds $172 million for costs related to the Obama Presidential Center.

I did a quick Google search. And I haven't been able to find out what the "costs related" phrase in the article refers to.

But no matter. Illinois can afford it. After all, the state is financially sound and can easily pay for an extravagance here and there. Oh, wait. Illinois is near the very bottom of the list when it comes to the financial heath of the states.

But again, no matter. Just raise taxes a little bit more. That should cover it.

“Oh, wait. Illinois is near the very bottom of the list when it comes to the financial heath of the states.”

There is no reason for the Illinois legislature to adopt fiscal discipline. Financial institutions and individuals continue to snap up the debt the state issues. From their perspective there is no downside to funding the Obama center, higher pensions, or any other feel good project.

When Illinois inevitably goes belly up, Democrats will demand a bailout by the federal government. If the Republican leadership in Congress at the time mirrors the behavior of Paul Ryan and McConnell, the federal government will take on the debts of Illinois.

Party on!

That’s quite possible. My guess is that Illinois will change its state constitution, and then go into some form of quasi-bankruptcy. State pensions will be fully protected (of course), but bondholders will be out of luck.

They have $172 million to spend on the traitor’s so-called library. One would think they would want to invest that money in their horribly underfunded state pension fund. Sounds like they are screwing their state workers and kneeling at the altar of Obambo.
