Ever wonder why mass public shooters commit their horrible crimes? Prosecutors in Broward County, Fla., released on Wednesday the Parkland high-school shooters cell-phone videos, in which he bragged, It will be a big event, and when you see me on the news, you will all know who I am.

The public has a right to know his identity.
It's one thing to say their name, but it's ridiculous how much they microanalyze every little detail of their life. It's like an attention whore's dream. We hear about their relationships, their political beliefs, their religion or lack thereof, their insane ramblings throughout the Internet, how they argued with their mom on April 8, 2003 about drinking too much soda...
Only release the name if it’s Jim Bob. If it’s Mohammed or Abdul, no!

We have to know their names so we don’t make a Star Wars movie with the hero called John Wayne Gacy instead of Luke Skywalker.
Apparently, Lott doesn’t know of this thing called “The Internet”. The name will get out and the longer it takes, the more scrubbing and adjustments will occur by the time the public finds out who the shooter is. People have a right to know who and why.
Of course, their dead naked body should also be put on public display with encouragements to ridicule him too. If they survive the shooting, they should be quickly executed by firing squad and that should be public as well. The same is true for tough guy gang-bangers. Let the copycats see how their heroes wound up—a dead and humiliated hunk of limp meat on a slab.
Why not? Naming them shows that they are liberals.
I think the media is just trying to hide the fact that the shooters are liberals.
Of course in the case of schools, it's usually a problem kid that was NOT dealt with properly.
Teachers, counselors have cr** instincts.
No, no, a thousand times no. Setting up secrecy of the press is just setting us up for something like the recent affair in England, where someone was hustled away by the police for the non-existent crime of filming a Muslim gang being walked into the court...and the members of the press not only were told they could not report it, but those who had already done so had to remove their reports from on-line versions of their publications.
Suppressing their identification is the worst thing we could do. Its the first step to suppressing freedom of the press. Its also the first step towards shutting down FR and all independent information exchanges.

Exactly right.
The public has a right to know his identity.

Then do so when he is executed.
.
In most cases, the identity of the real mass shooters have never been revealed.
.
Bingo.

Most cases? Such as?
Media immortality.
Any loser who can shoot up a school or church resulting in a mass casualty even can get their 15 minutes of fame.
Its the first and only time in their life someone noticed them and they became famous overnight.
Even the bad guys get publicity.
Well they do refrain from mentioning any (D) in a story but put up an (R) right at the beginning of any story about a Republican.
Yeah that’s what we need, pointless failed censorship. People will find out, it’s how things work. Might as well report it, since that is kind of their job.
The potential abuses from a practice of concealing the identities of perpetrators of heinous crimes are too numerous to name. Justice demands identification.
I agree if mass shootings remained anonymous, there wouldn’t be incentive to do them.
If your name is not going to be broadcast or printed and your mug won’t be splashed in the media, its like a tree falling in the forest.
If you’re not going to become famous, why bother? That could deter a lot of mass killers hoping to get noticed.
