McConnell cancels Senate's August recess
The Hill ^ | June 5, 2018 | Jordain Carney

Posted on 06/05/2018 10:43:46 AM PDT by jazusamo

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) said on Tuesday that he will cancel the August recess, citing "historic obstruction" by Democrats.

“Due to the historic obstruction by Senate Democrats of the president’s nominees, and the goal of passing appropriations bills prior to the end of the fiscal year, the August recess has been canceled," McConnell said in a statement.

He added that senators would stay in session "to pass legislation, including appropriations bills, and to make additional progress on the president’s nominees.”

The Senate had been expected to leave town on August 3 for a four-week break and not return to Washington until early September, after Labor Day.

But under McConnell's new plan, senators are expected to be out of town for the week of August 6. They will then return to Washington and remain in session for the rest of the month.

Here is McConnell's full statement.

“Due to the historic obstruction by Senate Democrats of the president’s nominees, and the goal of passing appropriations bills prior to the end of the fiscal year, the August recess has been canceled. Senators should expect to remain in session in August to pass legislation, including appropriations bills, and to make additional progress on the president’s nominees.”

Watch the Dems scream that they can’t campaign!

It would probably do some of them some good.

They ought to be forced to work three shifts, seven days a week, to get the nominees through.

Finally, the head comes out of the shell!!

If they are all in town, they will be easy to arrest.

McConnell cancels Senate's August recess

Mitch McConJob the Rino must be feeling the pressure from the great folks in this great country of ours.

Smerkula is an obstructionist to the highest degree plus he is a terrible leader of the Senate minority. Smerkula we can plainly see that you are a far left Rat minority leader going nowhere.

Pelousy will not be a minority leader of the People's house next term.

Miss Pelousy is suffering from disillusion!

Also, I love it when the right arm of the Rat party goes into hysteria. it could not have happened to such a nicer bunch of guys like the right arm of the Rat party.

I have occasionally been critical of McConnell but here I must applaud the man. There is another reason that nothing gets done, though. and he should address that. It is called the filibusterer. I was reading my old tattered constitution just last night and lo and behold. there is nothing permitting 60 votes to pass our laws in the constitution. Just go with 51 votes and you could have taken your extravagant taxpayer paid vacation all of August!!

The US Senate has arrested senators and brought them to the Senate floor to achieve a quorum to do business. The last time was Sen. Robert Packwood in 1988.

A Senate quorum is 51 members.
