I read an article that detailed the history of this issue.
To summarize:
1) Trucks were transporting oil across Indian land, and so the company paid a fee to the Indians for that.
2) The oil pipeline would have made it cheaper to transport the oil but...
3) The Indians wanted the company to continue to pay the same fees.
4) So the company moved the pipeline OFF of the disputed land.
5) The Indians STILL WANTED TO BE PAID for oil that was no longer crossing their land. Then...
6) The Indians proclaimed how horrible (to ‘the environment’) it would be for this pipeline (unless they got their money. I guess) so...
7) Stupid people gathered to ‘protest’, leaving a garbage dump in their wake.
Did I get that wrong?
You know, I 100% support the Indians’ Rights. They are technically a SOVEREIGN NATION within our borders, but they have some really, really, really stupid business people running things- to not take advantage of the freedoms they have because of this status.
Funny how all we saw was “The Noble Native Americans” protesting the rape of the land. Yet the facts were nowhere
to be found. MSM at it’s finest.

The above is a link to many articles on FR over the past
couple years about the Dakota Pipeline project and protest.
