You and your type have never had a need to understand ‘us’. As long as you were in power, that wasn’t necessary. In the last nine years, we saw how you folks were going to handle ‘us’ when you got your hands on the levers of power.
You pretended to be interested in dialogue, but only when we agreed with you, which was...never. So you were going to shove it down our throats. Gleefully, I might add.
When you had control, you changed the rules for nominating judges. When some of ‘us’ said that it might not be a good idea to do that and you should think hard before you do it, because once you were no longer in power, those very rules could be used against you, your response was a smirk. A quite predictable smirk that openly said “You better get some ice for that”.
But the shoe eventually did come to rest on the other foot. And the caterwauling and gnashing of teeth from the Left is both enjoyable and entirely predictable as they wail about how unfair it is that Trump is rubber stamping conservative candidates for the judiciary as fast as they can be brought to the floor.
You treated it the same way you have treated every single decision on every single thing you have touched since Franklin Roosevelt enacted The New Deal. You always think you have all the bases covered, that you are the most infallible and intelligent people in any room.
But those conceits are not your main problem, you on the Left.
Your main problem is that you have no mechanism or inclination to introspection. You live in liberal bubble houses, Leftist echo chambers populated with ‘information’ provided by ‘important’ people who think like you, and inhabit the arts, culture, and media. They tell you what you want to hear, and you think it is all true.
How could you be wrong?
So you never give it a second thought. It is revealing (beyond what you are capable of hearing or seeing in a meaningful way) to now hear the Left’s version of introspection after being defeated in 2016. A quote from Ben Rhoads recent book “The World As It Is” illustrates (better than anything else) this void in liberal thought. After the loss, Obama said: “...“Sometimes I wonder whether maybe we pushed too far…Maybe people just want to fall back into their tribe...”
It isn’t even an option that perhaps what the Left wants isn’t what Americans want. That thought is never broached. The administration that openly, deliberately, and unashamedly lied to achieve their goals, exemplified by the quote from one of the architects of the typically named “Affordable Care Act” (Better known as “ObamaCare”) Jonathan Gruber who admitted that, in order to get it passed, the law was made deliberately obscure and deceptive: “...Lack of transparency is a huge political advantage,” said Gruber. “Basically, call it the stupidity of the American voter or whatever, but basically that was really, really critical to getting the thing to pass...”
He really did say that. Really. So their lack of introspection, coupled with an arrogance and conceit so massive as to crush even the smallest smoldering tinder of introspection, reveals the Left to be the tyrants we all know they are, and gives us people like Jonathan Grueber who is 100% voicing the thoughts of the vast majority of Leftists with his condescending and dismissive outlook.
You never take the time to think things through. You are a river that is a mile wide and a quarter of an inch deep.
You never examine the past to see what worked and what didn’t. You always think that you can figure out how to manage people’s money better than they can. You think socialism doesn’t work because YOU weren’t the ones trying to implement it before, and you ignore history unless you think something in it helps you achieve your goals. You are surprised that The Soviet Union failed because you think you could do it right, and better. Cuba has always failed from the day Castro took over, but you would do things differently. The ideas of people like Marx, Lenin, Castro, Chavez, and numberless other failed states that have come and gone result in people having to butcher and eat animals in a zoo to stay alive, if they haven’t resorted to eating each other yet.
You don’t take into account the fallibility of humans. In your world populated by perfect people who have been led astray by the problems they have to face in it, you believe, you actually believe that a Utopia is possible, that evil in society can be removed by removing the problems in society. The most strident of you refuse to believe that there is simply such a thing as ‘bad people’, that real evil exists. Hundreds of millions of people were murdered by their own governments in the last century, not to mention the people from countries of their own they have slaughtered.
And all of those governments were tyrannical, far Left states.
So you see, Charles Pierce, you may not understand ‘us’ or want to understand ‘us’, but WE understand you and your comrades on the Left all too well. And we now have a President who appears to understand you perfectly as well. And you don’t understand it.
It is good for us that you don’t. Your thickness and ignorance serves a dual purpose of allowing us to impede your leftist diktats, and providing us with entertainment.
It may not last. Trump may be one of a kind, and we may never again have a president on the right who stands up to Leftist tyrants the way he does.
But for right now, he has you and your ilk spewing outraged spittle from your lips as your eyes bug out and your impotent mouths open and close like a landed fish.
