Canada’s tariffs should really be addressed as two different issues. Tariffs on agricultural products are a whole separate matter because every major country has them for a lot of different reasons. In the case of Canada, these tariffs are in place because ag products aren’t covered under NAFTA.
Can not have SPECIAL DEALS for special interests. That is fertilizer for growing corruption.
Do not try to protect any particular industry. Let free and fair competition prevail. Here in USA, we do have high wages, but we also have advantages, such as abundant energy, abundant minerals, educated and motivated workers and LARGE INTERNAL MARKETS. We can compete world wide, not for all products, but many products.
Let Bangladesh make clothes, China make shoes & purses, India make motorcycles, Canada can produce lumber. Fine, we can produce many other products. It is bad policy to try and protect everybody. Only defense & security related industries need to be protected. Rest are free to compete.
But all trade must be fair. China & Japan can not make it difficult for us to export cars into their country. China can not keep stealing out technology. Like Trump said today, either we make fair trade deals or no trade at all
