Turning LePage in Maine

Crowded fields of Democrats and Republicans are vying for the right to replace term-limited Gov. Paul LePage (R) — but there’s a wrinkle: This year marks the first time Maine will use a ranked-choice voting system that allocates votes based on a voter’s preference.

Nevada’s Golden Knight?

Clark County Commissioner Steve Sisolak (D) engineered the deal that brought the Las Vegas Golden Knights to town, something he has reminded voters of in paid advertising during the team’s improbable run to the Stanley Cup finals. He also helped secure funding for a stadium that will host the NFL’s Raiders when they move.

South Carolina headed for runoffs

South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster (R) finally got the job he’s been angling for for years when his predecessor, Nikki Haley (R), left to become ambassador to the United Nations. Now he has to keep it, and that’s proving more difficult than anticipated.

Virginia GOP face a fork in the road

Virginia Republicans aren’t likely to knock off Sen. Tim Kaine (D) this year, but the candidate they choose to run against him will say a lot about the future of the Old Dominion’s Grand Old Party.

Lock, (Com)stock and barrel

Rep. Barbara Comstock (R-Va.) finds herself in Democratic crosshairs, again, after Hillary Clinton won her Northern Virginia district by 10 points in 2016.

Harry Reid’s revenge

Danny Tarkanian is one of only a few Republicans to have Trump’s blessing before a general election.

Vegas fight night, round two?

Two familiar combatants are likely to survive crowded Nevada primaries on their way to another showdown in November, four years after Republicans captured what on paper is a Democratic-leaning seat.

Turning LePage in Maine

I get to watch this from ground zero here in Portland Maine. I hoping the Republican side is not close and the three opponents concede on election night. The Dems will be fighting until September over thier nominee who is probably going to come in third anyway.

Maine has a long history of independents running for and winning the governor’s race. In the last 20 years they have been liberals although they are generally center of the democrat. This year’s independent has no real name cache or money. She is a former democrat and is going to just split thier vote.

Another Maine event

Rep. Bruce Poliquin (R-Maine) has been a top Democratic target since he first ran for Congress in 2014. This year, he will face one of two Democratic rivals: State House Assistant Majority Leader Jared Golden or environmentalist Lucas St. Clair, whose family started the popular Burt’s Bees skin care line.

. . .

Poliquin has vanquished tough foes in the past and Trump won the district by 10 points in 2016.

There is a third person in the race on the Dem side. I don’t know how he will factor into the results which will also be via rank choice.

His foe in his two races was anything but tough. She was a professional statehouse politician. She now heads Emily’s List.

Already this year, the two parties have nominated more women for governor’s races than any previous year, by far.

It is possible here in Maine that the republicans will nominate a woman and the dems a man setting up a dilimea for the dems who insist we need to elect women. The independent is a woman so they may migrate to her.

I care. Screw the rest of ‘em, LOL!

It’s Sunday. Kids & Grandkids are Graduating this weekend from HS and College, people are leaving for vacations, etc.

Don’t take it personally.

Everyone here ADORES me *SMIRK* and some of my posts, which *I* think are REALLY IMPORTANT, only get a few responses, too. ;)
