Trump envoy’s remarks ignite outrage in Germany

President Trump’s top envoy in Germany has found himself in the middle of a diplomatic firestorm less than a month after being sworn in.

In an interview from his office in Berlin with the right-leaning Breitbart News, Richard Grenell made an acknowledgement unusual for a diplomat: he wanted to “empower other conservatives throughout Europe.”

“I absolutely want to empower other conservatives throughout Europe, other leaders. I think there is a groundswell of conservative policies that are taking hold because of the failed policies of the left,” Grenell said, adding that it was “an exciting time” to be serving as ambassador.

The blowback in Germany was swift.

The German Foreign Ministry requested that Grenell clarify his remarks; a top lawmaker with Chancellor Angela Merkel's conservatives said he was at risk of becoming a “highly ineffective” envoy; and a cadre of left-leaning politicians demanded that Grenell’s credentials be withdrawn.

“What this man is doing is unheard of in international diplomacy,” Martin Schulz, the former leader of the Social Democratic Party, told Germany’s DPA news agency.

Wanting other countries to stop following the failed policies of the left and do great things for their own people is now considered reprehensible to say.

These people don't like being called out.

Hell yes

Only leftists are allowed to declare publicly they want to push their agenda

This is why we love Trump. He goes against the grain and exposes the Left in its Hypocrisy.

While living in Germany, I can speak to this episode.

Frankly, the working-class German just doesn’t care. For them, this rates as problem number 1,000 on their list. All this faked-up hype, and they will tell you that the pension business, increasing poverty, screwed-up migration business, growing crime problems, and diesel car saga are all much higher issues.

The political crowd needs something to get the minds of the general public off the real issues.

Bleeeehhh, does anyone really give a rat’s derriere what Europe is “outraged” about now!? I am more sick and tired of Europe than any other place on the planet.

Cool! You Krauts don't want us to have our Embassy in your country, fine. He will come home and we will close it. Oh, and you and your entourage can pack your bags and move out of our country too. And along with this "change," you can forget getting visas for your citizens to come to America.

Well good for him

The Euros have been promoting fellow travelers, lefties, Trotskyites, Maoists, Stalinists, Communists and Progressives (but I repeat myself) for decades.

Something about sauce for the goose.

Or what goes around comes around.

Europeans absolutely love socialism, especially during holiday... mess with the holiday, or crowded urgent care and they become disgruntled, but remain lap dogs and equally poor.

Leave the regime change remarks be, only great and painful socialist pain can change their minds... after all regency was really only dis-established 100 years ago. Americans only had a taste of it, and if George III wasn’t addled there might not have been a revolution at all.

Also, how many millions of US Bucks are being introduced into the German economy via our Troops & Dependents and support groups?

If our troops were put on 24 hr notice to leave with ALL dependents etc, the Germans may not ‘mind’ our troops leaving but losing those greenbacks will sting.

May have a sort of W Germany absorbing E Germany effect BUT they already formed the EU to take care of that ‘problem’.

My mind will always believe that is the MAIN reason EU was formed and at the insistence of W Germany....

Not sure if Korea has enough monies to absorb a starving,, broke North Korea...

The blowback in Germany was swift.

Outrageous. Just because Grennell is queer is no reason to use blowback to denigrate him...besides, it's blowfront.

Could any actually, ever ever, refer to Trump as a “diplomat?

Not me.

Diplomacy has got us nowhere except to make people like us more. Trump apparently doesn’t give a hoot about being friends with Prime Ministers and other Presidents. What he is after is a fair deal for the U.S.

Nice to see that attitude filtering down to the troops.

This is SO MUCH WINNING. An ambassador willing to call out the failures of the Left! I have my issues with him, but I say thank God for President Trump.

““I absolutely want to empower other conservatives throughout Europe, other leaders.”

Conservatism and small government policies mean freedom. The opposite means tyranny.
Individual freedom is rare.
Tyranny has been embodied by Hitler, Stalin and others.
