Supreme Court allows Ohio voter purge

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Supreme Court is allowing Ohio to clean up its voting rolls by targeting people who haven’t cast ballots in a while.

The justices rejected, by a 5-4 vote Monday, arguments that the practice violates a federal law intended to increase the ranks of registered voters. A handful of other states also use voters’ inactivity to trigger a process that could lead to their removal from the voting rolls.

Justice Samuel Alito said for the court that Ohio is complying with the 1993 National Voter Registration Act. He was joined by his four conservative colleagues.

The four liberal justices dissented.

Partisan fights over ballot access are being fought across the country. Democrats have accused Republicans of trying to suppress votes from minorities and poorer people who tend to vote for Democrats. Republicans have argued that they are trying to promote ballot integrity and prevent voter fraud.

Awesome.

Now we just need to make this happen to every state.

I would like to see all voters purged from the voter rolls 30 days after the Presidential election. This will act to remove dead voters and voters who have moved. It would also require voters to re-register.

Not if they’ve been voting consistently since they died.
The rats just have to stay on top of the obituaries and not let the newly deceased fail to vote.

No, they just need to crawl out of their graves once every two years and reply to the query. I think this is a good move, needs to be kept above reproach, but can still be gamed if the people voting dead people reply to the queries.

Using the word “purge” is fake news.

This is a win.

Not cleaning up the voter roll is just asking for voter fraud.

Sotomayor: “the backdrop of substantial efforts by states to disenfranchise low-income and minority voters”

Someone tap her shoulder and tell her not even Holder & Obama are parroting this nonsense.

Another example of the difference between Justice Gorsuch and what would have happened with Justice Garland. Thank you President Trump.

This won’t do it. Fraudulent voters vote early and often, even from the grave.

And why couldn't wonder-boy John Kasich do this in the eight years he was Governor?

Answer: He is incompetent.

That there would be 4 POS that voted to encourage voter fraud is sad enough

and each should be IMPEACHED as a result

“Sotomayor: “the backdrop of substantial efforts by states to disenfranchise low-income and minority voters”

Low income and minority voters ought to be mad as hell at the Democrats. They are always saying how stupid they are, they don’t know how to register to vote, they don’t know how to get a picture ID, they really think all these people are worthless parasites.

Let me guess. This was a very narrow ruling which only affects Ohio, and only for this year's election.

Many years ago I worked in a bank. There was a man who came in a couple of hours before the bank opened. His job was to go through the obituaries in the morning newspapers and put a stop-order on any person’s account who had passed the previous day.

Would that be so difficult for the Board of Elections to do?
