Pro-Assad Alliance Beginning to Crumble in Syria
Gulf News ^ | June 12, 2018 | Mustafa Karkouti

Recent developments indicate a possible turnaround of events in the hotly contested Syrian war zones because of rethinking process of how best to achieve the aim of containing Iran. This seems to be imminent because of apparent cracks in the Russia-Iran alliance that has been shoring up Al Assad’s regime for the last three years at least.

Two other players, namely Turkey and the US, have apparently reached what seems to be a workable level of understanding to coordinate their activities in the heavily Kurdish populated parts of Syria, particularly in Manbij area. Recent reports suggest that the US and Turkish forces are jointly running security control in coordination with the four Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) military councils operating in this area. Turkey has previously considered SDF among its top enemies in North-East Syria. This coordination has significantly reduced the tensions between the two.

Following Trump’s decision to withdraw from the Iran nuclear deal, Mike Pompeo promised that his country will confront Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and its multifaceted militia network, particularly Hezbollah, throughout the region. One of IRGC leading generals, Qassim Sulaimani, has recently prided himself by declaring that he can safely travel, uninterruptedly, from Tehran through to Baghdad, to Damascus and Beirut.

If Assad falls, we may not like who/what replaces him.

If some faction like the Muslim Brotherhood or al Qaeda owns the person, it’s not going to be a lot better.

Maybe...but if Trump’s twitter history is any indication:

@realDonaldTrump
Dennis Rodman was either drunk or on drugs (delusional) when he said I wanted to go to North Korea with him. Glad I fired him on Apprentice!

@realDonaldTrump
Crazy Dennis Rodman is saying I wanted to go to North Korea with him. Never discussed, no interest, last place on Earth I want to go to.

Every day, we see that it was always a lie that we were after ISIS, not deposing Assad in favor of a Sunni government.

That was, and is the true goal all along. Obama’s murderous neocon agenda rolls along, and our generals cheering it on. If only they were half as aggressive against ISIS as they are against the legitimate Syrian government.

I trust Trump’s admin to avoid mistakes of the past and we are doing more than others in tackling the ISIS threat.

I wish I’d been reading his twitter before 2016.

I only use twitter for his National news, and that’s the only National news I trust.

“Yup.

And with 20/20 hindsight, we should have stayed out of Iraq and Afghanistan, other than going in, hunting down, and killing Osama binLaden. BOOSH was a f*ucking idiot! I still cringe that I voted for him twice. My only solace was that we didn’t get Alwhore or John Fairy! But why in the world did we ever get this feckless, globalist turd who pi$$ed away billions and caused thousands of our young people to be killed?

Syria. One of the biggest cluster *ucks in the history of man.

Turkey is a menace. Iran is the biggest menace on the planet. We support the Saudi’s which rank right up there. Assad is not a Nice Person but any power vacuum created in Syria will only replace him with someone FAR worse.

We need to stop supporting the Sunni’s, Russia needs to stop supporting the Shia, we need to pull out of NATO and join with Russia in a united anti-Islamic stance.

Instead the two major power keep playing Russian roulette on the border of Israel. Grand.

It sure looks like there has been a sudden collapse in Iranian power in Syria, since the Iran Deal pullout, financial raids against the IRGC, and Israeli air raids on Iranian positions.

It also looks like major negotiations have been going on behind the scenes with both Russia and Turkey, since Mike Pompeo became Secretary of State.

An end game seems to be shaping up quickly, and Assad might stay after all.

Pointless. The Russians aren’t there to only hit ISIS. The Russians are rightfully there to attack all rebels going after their ally, the Syrian government. That includes our own jihadis who we fly top cover for.

Its a US government farce that ISIS is the only problem that is legitimate to attack.
