With frustration mounting over lawmakers inaction on gun control, the American Medical Association on Tuesday pressed for a ban on assault weapons and came out against arming teachers as a way to fight what it calls a public health crisis.
At its annual policymaking meeting, the nations largest physicians group bowed to unprecedented demands from doctor-members to take a stronger stand on gun violence a problem the organizations says is as menacing as a lethal infectious disease.
The action comes against a backdrop of recurrent school shootings, everyday street violence in the nations inner cities, and rising U.S. suicide rates.

So we see what the priority of the AMA is: Buy off the media so the media will not put attention on what doctors are doing wrong.
Of course, it isn't all doctors, a majority of whom choose to not belong to the AMA. But it is preciesly the type of doctor who is in the AMA that is guilty of the above.
the same AMA which was front and center when obamatard presented Obamacare..
apnews = oxymoronic
With the emphasis on moron.
I’m reminded that that the AMA is more a political association than a medical one.
They don’t really speak for the medical profession.
They’re going to address the STD crisis too, right? Because diseases like HIV, anal cancer, syphilis, and gonorrhea are destroying homosexuals. Not that I don’t mind of course, but the Left is all about protecting one of their protected classes.
Very few drs will do crap that the national organizations say to do. Read comments at the sites to see. I sure wont and know few who will
Doctors should stick to being doctors. I do not give a damn what they think about guns.
Death from falls =556,000. AMA policy on falls . . . .
Problem is not guns it’s culture but we can’t talk about culture cuz that’s racist.
Go to Hell jerks.
Start arresting criminales..
"...AMA, doctors, and guns..."
Doing that which will not solve the problem is a recipe for frustration.
For having successfully attended medical school, they don't seem to be too bright.
Shouldn't doctors concentrate on medical errors, since a significant portion of them know absolutely nothing about guns?
It’s a shame we can’t get them to change the name of the organization. They are not interested in patient care only in promoting politics. The money trail would be instructive.
They should call gun ownership a disease.
They call everything else that, except sexual perversion...
During the ten years that I lived in Minnestoopid, doctors were getting more and more intrusive questioning about guns. It was evident that politics were becoming more important versus professionalism. I finally gave the politically correct answer “No, I have no guns! Guns are scary and icky!” in a soy boy metrosexual tone.
Fewer than 17% of U.S. physicians belong to the AMA.
These doctors need to be more concerned about the drugs, procedures they are peddling that kill thousands across the country not to mention the unsanitary conditions in hospitals and doctors’ offices that exacerbate the issue of infection.
