Six-time All-Star Kevin Brown holds alleged mail thieves at gunpoint for police 11:32 PM ET ESPN

Kevin Brown has gone from striking out big league batters to retiring would-be mail thieves.

The longtime major league pitcher seemingly put an end to a recent run of stolen mail in his north Macon, Georgia, neighborhood, apprehending a 15-year-old boy and another man before their arrests Wednesday.

According to a report by The (Macon) Telegraph, Brown hid in a neighbor's yard and waited for the alleged thieves to swipe some mail. When they tried, Brown caught them, holding them at gunpoint until police arrived, officers at the scene told the newspaper.

There was no immediate word on what the charges were.

Over his lengthy run on big league mounds, Brown won 211 games, collected six All-Star nods and twice boasted the National League's best ERA (1996, 2000).

Now retired, the 53-year-old has another title to add to his resume: neighborhood watchdog.

Feel good baseball story. And the Red Sox are back on top in the American League.

Kevin played for six different teams.

Texas Rangers (1986–1994) Baltimore Orioles (1995) Florida Marlins (1996–1997) San Diego Padres (1998) Los Angeles Dodgers (1999–2003) New York Yankees (2004–2005)

I’m sure many of Kevin Brown’s ex-teammates would like to hold him at gunpoint, or worse. He was not well liked in his playing days.

Bill James’ entire entry on Brown in his New Historical Baseball Abstract (2000) reads, “I don’t like him either, but he is a great pitcher.”

Take them into interrogation. But put the hot lights over the perps this time.

"...held alleged mail thieves at gunpoint..."

So what exactly would he have done if they opted to simply walk away? Shoot them?

That’s pretty funny. I hadn’t heard that. Nobody has a kind word about Brown.

If you shoot someone for stealing mail, things are probably not going to work out very well for you.

Afraid so....Watch some lawyer pop up and end up suing him for false imprisonment and probably win.

Exactly. How does he ascertain for certain its a felony crime or that anyones facing murder or permanent bodily injury?

CCW aren’t police.

I am not against holding a criminal at gunpoint but unless you genuinely believe they are just going to retreat, regroup and attack again, or will continue deadly/potentially deadly violence towards others if they leave,

the law will not protect you if you do this.

Can you hold people at gunpoint just for stealing? I thought your life had to be in danger.

Yes, that too.

Also, the government is giving excellent lessons on how a bunch of nothing can be used to completely bankrupt and destroy seemingly innocent people.

With the overflow of lawyers, the charges could go viral, also charge him with enough so he makes a cash settlement to get out of it....

Got to go back to stocks in the town square and public hangings and/or tar and feather at the least...

Just their ass or are there other body parts you can aim at?

Stealing mail is a federal offense. So I’m sure the Postal Service will send one of their bigwigs to apologize to these two disadvantaged youths. And they can prosecute Brown in federal court.

In Texas you can shoot an absconding criminal in the back, as they are running away, if you cannot stop them from stealing your stuff* otherwise.

So if the criminal is on a little old people scooter and you can easily run him down, no.

But if the criminal is a young strapping lad, and you have a sore toe, then fire away.

*You can also shoot people stealing other people’s stuff, too!

Yes, that was the whole issue for this case.

I think most of us (and most rational human beings) would want a neighbor like Mr. Horn, who says “Nope, you ain’t stealing from me, or my neighbors”.

Horn’s kills were good ones.

He is my hero.

He even shot one of the perps in the back, right in front of a police detective!
