Former Rolls-Royce engineer 'arrested under Official Secrets Act' amid fears China tried to obtain F-35 fighter jet details
A man in his 70s has been arrested as part of a probe under the Official Secrets Act, police said on Thursday, amid reports he was a former Rolls-Royce engineer suspected of divulging secrets about Britain's new stealth fighter to China.
Scotland Yard said the man was arrested on Tuesday afternoon and taken to a police station in Derbyshire before being released under investigation.
A search at an address in Derbyshire was ongoing while a search warrant was also executed at an office address in the West Midlands.
The man was named by the Sun as Bryn Jones, a former chief combustion technologist, who it said had been detained in connection with efforts by China to obtain classified information about Britain's new £100million RAF stealth fighter jet.
The 73-year-old former Rolls-Royce employee was reportedly held after MI5 received information that classified details were passed to Beijing.
He was detained in an “ultra-discreet” swoop by officers from Scotland Yard’s SO15 counter-terrorism command at his home on Tuesday, it was reported.

I love the Brit speak. It was not the “secret act” it was the Official Secrets Act. This was not discreet, it was ““ultra-discreet” .

At least he didn’t insult the faux religion of the invader class. That would be far worse than selling out nowadays.
Since he is a combustion expert, let him face it up close and personal.
F-35 uses Pratt & Whitney engines, not Rolls-Royce.
Maybe he wanted to buy a new Roller in cash?
The Chinese are in need of a slow jet that cannot outperform an F-16? And one that will fatally injure a pilot under 135 pounds who ejects, and will likely badly injure a pilot under 165.

Well, we knew the Chi-Com’s were behind in engine technology. How much did they get?
Or he needed money to travel to the US for life saving surgery that the NHS won’t perform in the UK?
Considering how much good medical care costs, that would be a possibility.
I figured by now they would already know everything there is to know about the plane.
That had to hurt. Who was the driver/pilot? Super Dave Osborne?
The early years included funding for a two-engine program, with RR selected as the alternate engine. This was designed to get more buy-in from partners and BUYERS of the F-35. The two-engine requirement was dropped before LRIP began, but RR spend considerable $$$ on the design.
Engines are a different matter. The Chi-Com’s probably made most of the stuff in the plane itself.
The Chi-Coms have already demonstrated to the world that they can’t even reverse engineer a high end Russian jet engine right.
