“As I recall, the existing “L” or elevated trains in Chicago, have a direct line from downtown to O’Hare.”

You are correct. I was wondering the same thing myself as I have ridden that elevated train to O’Hare. Perhaps there is a real estate angle as that line owns a lot of valuable downtown real estate.

Ah! Tell your friends and relatives that you now, in your heart of hearts, believe that Trump is gifted.

Welcome to winning!

“The tunnel is planned to take 12 minutes.”

Just like the pneumatic tubes at the bank drive throughs. Perfect for claustrophobes...especially when they get stuck, flooded, bombed etc.

“Perhaps there is a real estate angle..”

But of course...and many other angles as well. Everything...EVERYTHING..in shitcago is premised on payoffs, graft, corruption, bribery, blackmail etc.

Years ago the state of Teas wanted to do a tunnel from Central Expressway to Love Field airport, right underneath Mockingbird. The people, most of which are millionaires, kicked up a fuss and it was never built. Now they all have to contend with all the traffic of people trying to get to the airport.

Perhaps they plan to turn parts of the El to an elevated park/retail development somewhat like the High Line Park on Manhattan’s West Side. I have walked that elevated freight rail line transformed into a public park and it is something worth seeing. There could be a ton of money to be made leasing retail and business space on something like that.

Here is the link to the High Line: https://www.nycgovparks.org/parks/the-high-line

As I recall, the existing “L” or elevated trains in Chicago, have a direct line from downtown to O’Hare

You’re right! And it’s still there It’s called the blue line ,.Fact is there is an “L” connection to both city airports Midway and O’Hare.

What’s wrong with the current subway? It’s perfect...when you come out on Michigan Ave there’s a McDonalds right there!!
_________________________________________________________________________
That’s still subpar. It’s not perfect until you have a McDonald’s next to a liquor store nyext to a CVS pharmacwhen you exit the subway. You need more than a coke and a smile to wash down those Big Mac’s and fries. Then go next door to get some pepto and cough syrup to wash the pepto down.

How many miles is it ? Shorter the better (even if all underground)

A Limited distance that will have sufficient customers (for utility beyond ‘prestige’)

Not doing something that airplanes ALREADY handle well enough (ie - unlike californias high speed rail project)

“but Boring Company will finance the entire project.“

No, they won’t. The entire underground in the Loop is honeycombed with tunnels that go back 100 years. Some of them aren’t even mapped. Then there’s the small matter of the tunnels that were sealed after the Great Chicago Flood.

Guess what, they’re still full of water. The smallest wrong move will inundate the entire downtown area.

This lunacy will never get past the approval process.

Never.
