Turkey receives official invitation for F-35 delivery

Turkish authorities have received an official invitation to receive the country's first next-generation F-35 Lightning II jet on June 21, according to the Turkish daily, Hürriyet.

"Lockheed Martin would be happy to see you by our side during ‘The Republic of Turkey F-35 Delivery Ceremony' at Fort Worth on June 21," said the official invitation letter from Lockheed Martin, the main manufacturer of the aircraft.

The handover of the first warplane will take place after the reception on June 21, the invitation letter added. Turkey's first F-35A will enter service in November 2019 after the completion of a pilot training program. The other jets will start coming at regular intervals, the report said.

Meanwhile, a U.S. Senate committee recently passed a defense policy bill which included measures to prevent Turkey from purchasing the F-35 jets. It was reported that the amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) from Democratic Senator Jeanne Shaheen and Republican Senator Thom Tillis, would remove Turkey from the F-35 program over the country's detention of U.S. citizen Andrew Brunson, Shaheen's office said. The bill also cited Turkey's agreement with Russia to buy S-400 surface-to-air missile batteries.

This sounds like an Invitation by Lockheed Martin.

Will they be told no by the Congress?

I don't believe any news originating in Turkey. Daily Sabah is in Turkey.

Turkey has been a partner in the F-35 since its inception. Turkey is manufacturing key components of the F-35, and will be a prime F135 engine repair depot for Europe.

I hope they don’t get them. They will only use it on us or the Kurds.

Congress is supposed to block the arms deal with Qatar, the sponsor of muslim brotherhood and Al Jazeera.

“They will eventually be turned on US.”

Not very successfully. All but the Israeli models have software kill switches in them, so they can be turned off remotely.

This was a major point of contention between Israel and Obama, given Israel knew Obama would order them off if Israel faces an existential crisis.

If I were a betting man, I’d agree with you.

If not, it’s not long before Turkey’s end.

From your source:

• Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) has been strategically supporting the F-35 Program since 2008. The company currently supplies production hardware that goes into every F-35 production aircraft. In conjunction with Northrup Grumman, TAI manufactures and assembles the center fuselages, produces composite skins and weapon bay doors, and manufactures fiber placement composite air inlet ducts. Additionally, TAI is strategically manufacturing 45 percent of the F-35’s including Air-to-Ground Pylons and adapters which is Alternate Mission Equipment (AME).

Additionally, Turkish Industry are going to have significant Industrial Participation role supporting Lockheed Martin and Pratt and Whitney for F-35 aircraft sustainment and F135 engine production and sustainment. Turkey has been given the approval to build its own F135 engines and was also selected to have the first European Regional F135 Engine depot overhaul capability. Both the engine production and overhaul will take place at the 1st HIBM in Eskisehir. Additionally, TAI has also been assigned to represent the organic depots of the Turkish Armed Forces within the Autonomic Logistic Global Sustainment (ALGS) system and Havelsan has been assigned as the Turkish Integrator for the National Integrated Training Center (ITC).

I hear that from many aviation types.

However the Top person in air defense in Iran was replaced recently because a F35 made a deep penetration into their air space. It must be very stealthy.
