2 Deputies in Kansas Are Fatally Shot While Transporting Inmates

Two sheriff’s deputies in Kansas who were shot while transporting inmates from a jail to a court hearing on Friday died of their injuries, the police in Kansas City, Kan., said on Saturday.

Officials said Friday that it appeared the deputies were shot with one of their own weapons.

“When they pulled into the parking lot and readied to transport these inmates, they were overcome,” Maj. Kelli Bailiff, a spokeswoman for the Wyandotte County sheriff’s office, said at a news conference on Friday. “It is very possible that with their own firearm they were both shot.”

A suspect was also shot and brought to the University of Kansas Medical Center, officials said. The police did not release any information about the suspect’s condition other than to say Friday that the person was undergoing surgery.

The deputies, Patrick Rohrer, 35, and Theresa King, 44, were taken to the same hospital. Deputy Rohrer, a seven-year veteran of the office, died of his injuries on Friday. Deputy King died early on Saturday morning. She had been with the office for 13 years.

“She always had a smile on her face. Always. Just a sweetheart,” Keeley Hanson, a bartender who frequently chatted with Ms. King and her colleagues at Chicago’s, one of their regular hangouts, told KSHB.

The shooting happened around 11:30 a.m. in the courthouse parking lot, outside of the vehicle used to transport the inmates, said Terry Zeigler, the chief of the Kansas City Police Department, which is leading the investigation.

Bummer. 3 kids without a mom and 2 kids without a dad.

FOX4 Kansas City identified the suspect as Antoine Fielder, 22, who had been tried twice for the murder of a 22-year-old but both trials ended in hung juries. He was recently charged with the murder of a 55-year-old woman.

A real piece of work. May have been involved in the murders of up to 6 people.

“It is very possible that with their own firearm they were both shot.”

This is BS. They know exactly who's firearm was used to shoot them both to death. And they knew it within minutes of this brutal shooting.

Several TV news stations reported on this in depth as they also did on Facebook. None showed the perp. You had to hunt to find a photo of him.

My only question regarding this report would be, they have the suspect, they have two dead deputies, all the associated evidence, on scene witnesses and likely video too.

So why are they holding back telling the public specifically how this happened? Why the secrecy? Is it because it might look bad and might not fit their politically correct narrative?

Remember the case in Atlanta where the female guard was overpowered in the courthouse? Could this be a poor use of female officers?

It may involve someone on the outside helping the perp so naturally they do not want to show their hand as it is an on going investigation. Pure speculation on my part.

No it isn’t. They’re holding back allowing the story to grow old and cold. They knew exactly what happened with minutes of the shooting.

Because the perp is a protected class, and the officer who lost control of his/her sidearm was a member of one of the protected class weaker sexes who as overpowered?

Just a guess...

They've admitted the suspect shot them both to death with ONE of the deputies guns. This wasn't planned. This was done on moments notice when the suspect saw a clear weak link and was able to disarm one of them. This was sudden and quick.

Yeah nully...you are prolly right. However...here in ga recently...two male guards were killed the same way.
Not following simple security protocols got these two shot.

And by the way, the courthouses I’m familiar with are loaded with internal/external cameras. Especially in areas where prisoners are being dropped off/picked up on a regular basis.

Thank you. I did not know that they let out that the suspect shot them with one of their own guns.
