I can probably guess, but what’s an EQ? Earthquake?

EQs are very rare in Kansai.. and this one does NOT compare to the one we had in 2011 (I was in Chiba at the time.. and that one was beyond intense, and lasted 11 hours straight :p

BUT. for this area, this was big. And it wasn’t a build up (like most EQs here), it was an instant drop, then side by side.

I remember those easy back and forth quakes from living in Yokohama in the 1950s.
it was the hammering up and down that really got our attention.

We were in drydock in Yokosuka when one hit and the cranes were waving around. Scary.

Yes, I remember those (usually centered in Ibaraki, but felt around Tokyo/Chiba).. at least weekly, and almost relaxing >.<

Got used to those within a year of me coming here, and no longer held on to the nearest object when those occurred after about a year.

This one was much like the one in 2011 in that you didn’t hear/feel it coming... :/

I’m visiting Kyoto and just felt it. Rather frightening to be in a shaking building...

per NHK and JR the Shinkansen and several local lines are halted. NHK is airing nonstop coverage - looks like mostly disruption to water lines .
