Since Illinois began issuing permits to carry concealed firearms in 2014, state government has generated considerable evidence of how its 265,000 permit holders use their weapons. There have been dozens of shootings by licensees. At least 11 people have been killed.

These episodes might confirm the value of armed citizens in stopping violent criminals. Or they could reveal a pattern of trigger-happy amateurs blasting away without a good reason.

So which is it? We can’t say — and neither can law enforcement. As the Tribune’s Katherine Rosenberg-Douglas and Jennifer Smith Richards report, “The state police know nothing about the nearly 40 shootings by people with concealed carry licenses.” Another discovery: “The state police do not even keep a list of shootings by concealed carry holders.

The authors should consult a piece written by Professor Lott which discusses how permit holders (based on Michigan’s experience) are that less likely than police officers to be convicted for a non justifiable homicide.

Four years, forty shootings. The entire history of concealed carry shootings for the state wouldn’t make an abnormal weekend for the city of Chicago. You don’t need more data to figure out if concealed carry licensees show “a pattern of trigger-happy amateurs blasting away without a good reason”.

I read through the list of “shootings” involving concealed carry. All but a small number of them were self-defense actions or stopping a crime. Of course that goes against the “Lie-bune’s” assigned narrative, so we’ll never see the truth from them.

LE did not write a report? What nonsense, they could ask for and read each of the dozens of reports. If someone was not charged by LE for shooting someone, when they know who pulled the trigger, it is a sign of whether is was justified or not. Not wanting to read the report is just lazy. But that is a high bar for journalism.
