Also, HD wouldn’t even exist without tariffs from Reagan.
And no, they didn’t make this move offshore because of the tariffs. They were doing the typical cheap labor offshore MBA crap and had it already planned. This was just an excuse.
I hope all the HD management gets their bikes ripped off.
Correct. I am retired in Southeast Asia but originally a Cheesehead. The Wisconsin CBS affiliate who made this a national issue is in Madison WI, a hotbed of "progressive politics" for decades.
Harley moved production facilities into ASEAN countries to duck the 50% import tax years ago. They have been a bit wobbly as a company for a while now, but this was a move made with planning, years in the making, to try to maintain some semblance of market share, not some action which was as a response to the current tariff issue.
You have just been snukered one more time by the liberal media with this story. But we should all be accustomed to that, yes?
Correct-a-mundo!
Harleys cost too much; and that is because of their haggles with union contracts, which ended with an impasse last September.
Plus, everyone American who is going to buy one already has, and they paid through the nose for the swagger-factor, and snob appeal, of a Harley. That makes the market for overpriced heavy metal rather slim.
I know people will vehemently disagree with me. But I find their rationale for going abroad to be self-serving to the max. The real reason is to viably produce Harleys people can afford.
