Greg Gutfeld: My guide to social media redemption
FoxNews ^ | 6/26/2018 | Greg Gutfeld

As humans, we live to connect. Which is why it’s amazing that it’s this very connection we seek that is now about to tear us apart.

For the past five years or so I’ve watched an endless parade of outrage mobs on social media, and I’ve come to the conclusion that Twitter has now become part of a destructive, almost unstoppable evolutionary process.

Twitter now triggers the group survival mentality in all of us – in which the desire to expel a person from the group (call it a ritual sacrifice) is done to stave off your own inevitable targeting from the same group. If the mob goes for him first, then I might be spared (for now). This is likely part of all ritual sacrifices, old and new.

Social media preys on two competing desires: to be part of a group for protection, and to stand out in order to attract partners. In my opinion, these desires, married together on social media, have led to career suicides, brutal online bullying, and even actual suicides.

A few weeks ago on the Five, I said that who you are on social media is a far lesser version of who you are in real life. The only problem: you can’t see that in yourself – but you can see it in others.

Gutfeld is a nut-job.
But he's OUR nut-job, and endearing in an odd sort of way....

Greg Gutfeld is a rising star in social commentary, and one of the bright spots on FOX weekend News shows.

He’s more of a libertarian, but not as stringent as many Libertarians are in their anti-government mentalities.

He is an atheist, but not a militant one who claims we should all declare God dead and faith a joke.

As a Christian who hangs out somewhere to the right of Attila the Hun, I enjoy his sarcastic commentary and accept it as a relief from the norm we usually get.

There is no redemption for an entire industry that is a slave to the RAT party. The RAT party is now a subdivision of the Communist Party USA

I watch his show most Saturdays. Katherine Timpf is the Damsell beauty but his choice of other guests is a bit perplexing-not that funny. Tyrus saves the show but even he needs to try harder.

His opening monologues absolutely skewer leftist media elites.

Greg won’t say whether he would use a zappy button if made available in social media. I would.

The Internet is mirroring the broadcast media. Most tv is talkimg heads these days, very partisan, and very rude.

As a San Mateo (past resident) I like Greg — who went to Serra High School. His wit and the exposure he got on Red Eye made him a favorite of mine.

He is good on his own show on Sat evening, and usually has interesting guests.

His work with The Five, and their obsession with giving the Juan Williams a platform to spout left talking points is sad. This just shows that Fox has drank the kool aid with respect to kissing the butts of their management. Not good when we want show hosts to provide their point of view. Clearly the lure of a high paying media job seems worth the price of having to see much of what you say opposed on the same air by your producer who has capitulated to the establishment. The Five is not as good under the new management as it once was.
