The mental health industry isnt what it used to be, although there are plenty of brilliant and compassionate analysts and counselors who help lots of people.
Effective treatment depends a great deal on what is considered healthy and normal. And that keeps changing with the times, sometimes based on demands from identity groups.
Not long ago, when a guy gazed in the mirror and saw a girls reflection, most analysts would have concluded that he needed help working through his delusion.
Now were told that anyone who thinks the girl in the mirror is still actually a guy is the one who needs to be on the couch. Also, that counselors who help people resist unwanted same-sex desires at their clients request are unethical and should have their licenses yanked. Science? Biology? Anyone?
A new report suggests that even mass shooters have sown confusion inside the mental health establishment.
Just the other day, the FBI released a study of active mass shooters between 2000 and 2013 and concluded that the killers tended to be boys or men and had displayed some troubling behavior before the shootings. No surprises there.
But heres the statistic that the Washington Post deployed in order to smack around President Trump:
Contrary to public perception of the episodes as being fueled by mental-health issues an assertion frequently given voice by President Trump law enforcement officers were able to verify that only about 25 percent of the attackers had diagnosed mental health issues.
Get that? The other 75 percent were just out for what? A good time? The weasel word in the article is diagnosed. If you rush past it, you might conclude that the undiagnosed killers have no mental health issues. Thats probably not what they meant, but its still a head-scratching assertion.
The Post also quotes a 2015 study by a clinical psychiatry professor at Columbia University who examined 235 people who carried out or attempted to carry out mass killings, and he concluded that about 22 percent could be considered mentally ill.
If mass shootings themselves do not qualify as a marker for mental illness, perhaps the definition needs some work.
Theres another point that shouldnt get lost amid the statistics: Setting out to kill innocent people is not only mentally unbalanced but evil.
Millions of people are treated for various mental afflictions, from mild depression to schizophrenia, but only a tiny few go out and do something horrendous. I dont think its out of line to suggest, as President Trump does, that such people are both crazy and evil.
In our rush toward a therapeutic model of human behavior that reduces the moral element to a negligible factor, societys sense of right and wrong has become blurred.
In Anthony Burgesss 1962 novel A Clockwork Orange, bored young thugs go on violent romps. There are two horrific aspects. The first is the actual violence against innocent victims, vividly portrayed in the 1971 movie version directed by Stanley Kubrick. The other is the conditioning of the lead thug, Alex, so he is mentally inert and thus cured. Or is he? Thats how the movie ends, unlike Burgesss novel, which has a more hopeful conclusion, with Alex admiring a former hoodlum who has matured into a husband and father.
A crucial aspect of what makes us human is that God imparts a moral sense in every human heart and allows us to make moral or immoral choices. Take that away and were just behaviorally wired animals without a grasp of the sacredness of human life.
If the vast majority of mass shooters are not mentally ill, then perhaps we should settle for calling them evil.
One thing on which we should all be able to agree is the need to identify the factors that turn some kids into monsters so we can spot them and stop them before they act.
IMHO, just about every one of these azzholes is an MK ULTRA zombie “programmed” by Deep State. They’ve been fed drugs and brainwashed under some resemblance of that original program and then programmed to be triggered probably by a specific type of cellphone call. Yeah, I have my tinfoil hat on, but I sure wouldn’t put it past these evil bassturds to have a bunch of these “pre-programmed” zombies at there beck & call to do their false flag wet works when they feel it’s necessary. Innocent human life to these “clowns” means nothing and they should be dealt with appropriately when the truth finally comes out.
Hm. I have never seen the end of the movie A Clockwork Orange in that light.
To me, at the end of the movie, he (Alex) is blissful because he is NOT mentally inert, NOT cured, and has gamed the system wildly to his advantage!
Of course, I may have misunderstood it, but...that isn't the way I saw it.
Anyway, good article! Thanks for posting...
I think it is good to keep in mind that evil DOES exist.
There are normal people who aren’t evil.
There are crazy people who aren’t evil.
There are normal people who ARE evil.
And there are crazy people who ARE evil.
“the end”
In the end, the conditioning was removed due to political pressure and the gov was willing to kiss his butt, hence your correct perception that he saw himself in the catbird seat.
The inertness they’re referring to was the part of the film after conditioning and before it was removed, where he would get violently ill if his old personage began to rise, like when his old buddies, now cops, beat him up.
Contrary to public perception of the episodes as being fueled by mental-health issues an assertion frequently given voice by President Trump law enforcement officers were able to verify that only about 25 percent of the attackers had diagnosed mental health issues.
I wonder what % were heavy social media users since the advent of social media.
Freegards
The 78% being quite sane and able to function, just extremely malevolent and able to carry out his/her detailed plan thoroughly and precisely. Like a Hitler. Or a Stain. Or an infantry division.
You don’t have to be evil to be crazy, but you absolutely have to be crazy to be evil...
I don’t give a damn what the reasons are; some of these rat-bastards just do it for the notoriety, just to be famous.
The only thing the f#cked up press should be allowed to write or broadcast about these incidents is that “THE KILLER WAS SHOT DOWN LIKE THE RABID ANIMAL HE/SHE WAS”.
Then the press could describe in detail how the corpse was disposed of in the city dump.
I don’t want the state to tell the press what they can and can’t report. I don’t trust either entity to tell the truth. But at least the media would be in competition with other media. It really wouldn’t be that effective anyhow with social media, they would still achieve infamy amongst the folks who seek that crap out.
Freegards
I don’t know.
I turned what you said over and over in my head, and I guess I came to the conclusion that we all have the seed of evil in us. I suppose that means we have to constantly weed it and be vigilant lest it overcome us.
I hadn’t thought of it that way...
Great book...great movie. My wife hates it...she said it forever ruined “Singing In The Rain” for her. I think I understand, because it kind of did for me too.
She said she didn’t like it because it is all about indiscriminate violence, and I said. “Yes...then you understand it. That is the whole point of it.”
(of course, that, and the fundamental underlying premise that if you take away the ability for someone to be evil, does that make them “good”?)
Every time anyone refers to them as a "shooter" (as opposed to "killer," "mass murderers," "homicidal maniacs," etc), it tars all law-abiding shooters (and gun owners) with the same brush.
I’m not a psychiatrist, but it seems to me that people who carried out or attempted to carry out mass killings are both insane and evil!
It is not rocket science, folks! Evil is evil! Insane is insane!
Amen.
